It makes perfect sense in Japanese. Wii = Wee But you can say "w" as double So it could be the nintendo "double e" in Japan, basically a breast size....
I like the way you think Kevin EDIT: After some thought, I think I can understand the new name. By keeping such a small name that's not even a word, people will be forced to refer to it as the "nintendo wii" more often than not , like the nintendo 64 (as the fifth console it could also go for the name Nintendo V [latin for five]- which sounds alot like Wii). This in itself promotes the name "nintendo" whereas a word like "Gamecube" would be often used by itself (XBOX and PlayStation, too)
I still think the name is lame as hell. I suggest we start some kind of organized letter writing campgain to get Nintendo to call it Revolution again for the US release.
After thinking about and looking at the games Nintendo has been publishing in the past 5-6 years. Games like Mario Party, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, etc. Those were games that were great if you were playing it with someone else. So I can totally understand why they chose "Wii" as the name. you and me = we, Wii are playing on the Nintendo, having fun going weeee.
Now I can be laughed at by my richer friends with 360's and Ps3's! Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!111iiii!
Classic marketing ploy! ...They say that ANY publicity, is good publicity, unfortunately calling a console 'Wee' is bound to lead to people taking the piss!!! (no pun intended)
"Gonats and Strife, Gonats and Strife..." *sing* for everyone who doesn't understand: http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/weeee.php
I was looking for that flash . I haven't seen that since back in 2002! They need to update it now for the Nintendo Wii..
