    The MiWi (Wii ripoff)

Does anyone remember this Vii commercial from a couple of years back?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fd1YIbO34Ns

Well, apparently there's a clone of that clone made, the MiWi:

...and I just found out that someone's offering this here:
    http://www.2dehands.be/computer-gam...e-104994314.html?console_wat=1&p=be-17&qq=Wii

    I didn't even know there's a follow-up for such a crappy effort.
The worrying thing is that someone thinks there's a demand for this and released it on the European market!

    EDIT:
It seems that these have been going around since 2008 in the States, also available under the name 'Zone'.

There are loads of these Wii rip offs. The Chinese have no shame when it comes to making shit ripped off other products. Even shit ripped off other Chinese shit. What could be better than shit from shit?

The 'Zone' unit mentioned earlier in the thread has also been on widespread sale here in the UK. Poundstretcher had them on sale and they have been heavily rotated on the 'Price Drop/Bid-Up TV' channels on satellite and cable.

Never underestimate the stupidity/gullibility of grandparents or aunts and uncles of younger or even teen kids because on the bargain channels these were flying out the door. To the uninitiated these are as much the real McCoy as the Wii itself.

    Let's see..

cheap imitations of real products? check.

    Bad materials and workmanship? check.

    complete lack of originality? check.

Hitting 2year olds while driving? check. [Sorry guys, can't get over that after reading how the child has finally deceased]

    Welcome to China!

yeah there are tons of these things, I've been trying to make sense of them for a while now - quality is extremely variable, usually the sports games are too simplistic to be anything but boring (since most of them don't have any real motion control, they just map a shake to the A button - the Sport Vii was one of the few to do proper motion detection), but they often at least have some decent-ish generic action and/or puzzle games included. If you get one for £20 you can't complain really, you'll almost certainly get £20 worth of fun out of it.

But obviously its not a substitute for a Wii or any other proper console (afaik the Zone series even have a disclaimer on the back stating as much) especially since there's no means of getting any more games for them, unless you're lucky enough to get one of the models that can also play Famicom carts.

Incidentally the MiWi series is made by a HK company called Macro Winners, but the "Wireless Game Console" linked in the first post isn't a MiWi - its actually a WiWi, which despite looking identical is made by a different company and has completely different (worse) games. For some reason about 5 different Chinese companies have used that same case design for their Wii clones.

LOL. Seeing ripoffs of ripoffs is pretty sad. To think pulling shams on each other is fair game. I'm more used to them basing their shit on overseas products.

Nah, they don't play wii games at all. They're basically modern cheap ass 16bit game consoles.

Would anybody have a link to the video of the Vii being disassembled? I loved that one but could never find it again.

I remember in the run-up to Christmas last year, one of the shopping channels here was touting this pile of crap, saying how wonderful it is, and demonstrating the "games" and "features", whilst trying desperately to avoid mentioning the Wii word. Cringe-tastic!

Such basic cartridges! This looks EASY to work with, from a PCB design viewpoint. Maybe we'll see homebrew.
