Hello, long time lurker, first time poster! Ive been contemplating getting a wonderswan color, but wondering what games would be easy to play through without japanese knowledge? I know there are a few rom translations out there, and I was wondering if their is a WS flashcart out?
You also want to get the Wonderswan Crystal over the Wonderswan colour. The Crystal has a much better screen. Still turd by todays standards but far better than the colour. Yakumo
I second this. It's not a bad system. Games: Final Fantasy games Mr Driller Rainbow Islands Pocket Fighter Digimon Rockman Judgement Silversword Front Mission Guilty Gear 2
Its handful of actual English releases are few. Among them was Digimon IIRC, which I'd never seen for sale. Maybe I'll try Wonderswan again once I build up more patience to find its rarer stuff.
I'm shocked no one has mentioned Gunpey, the tribute to Gunpei Yokoi. Its almost on terms with Tetris in being perfect handheld fodder. Get the b&w version though, much more charm than the colour one. The PSP version isn't bad either (becomes brutally hard quite quickly though).
I believe there has been a Linker + Flashcart - like 8 years ago or something? -, but I have no idea if they're still available anywhere. As for recommendations, first of all I also second Yakumo's about getting a SwanCrystal. I haven't personally used a Color yet but heard enough stories about their displays, which is why I went straight for the Crystal when I got my WS. You've got to play it with a good light source around, ala the original GBA, but then the display's still rather crisp, in my opinion. And seeing Digimon mentioned here, Digimon Tamers: Battle Spirit and its sequels - Ver 1.5 and Battle Spirit: Digimon Frontier - are some, well... okay fighting games, there's an adaption of the Trading Card Game, Digital Monsters Card Game Ver. WSC, which I like (all in Japanese, tho) and of the RPGs, Digimon Adventure 02: D-1 Tamers is very good (again, all in Japanese). Tho, if you don't like Digimon... well, those games won't change your opinion. Also, a word of advice, at least on the SwanCrystal, do not plug the cartridges in all the way, leave a minor gap (= 1-2mm) between the cart's case and the system. I had games crashing on me, taking their saved data with them, when I had them in too far.
Accessories are AFAIK the toughest part for us westerners. Not easy to find the worm light, AC adapter, headphones, or similar, outside Japan.
