Well, isn´t insane when a woman is getting whipped for calling a teddybear for Mohammed ? I mean seriously ? isn´t Mohammed a common name in the Arabic world ?
And if I remember right, then it was something the whole class decided to call the teddy bear. Anyway, sometimes I don´t get people. You can all now begin hammering eachother, about this and that. Since it is the famous unmoderated political thread.

Well apparently Sudan doesn't give a shit as it continues to ethnically cleanse Darfur. But who cares, it's Africa.

That was probably the most racist comment I have heard coming out , in a while. It is not just borderline, but probably directly racist. But as you said , who cares. "since it is Africa". Well, I do care . So there is at least one that cares, but can´t do anything about it sadly.

He was being sarcastic, as has been said before sometimes it is hard to tell peoples tone on the internet. It was meant as a comment on how the world doesnt give a fuck about Africa in general.

And I said, I did care about the woman who is now in prison over the teddy bear, and I think it is crazy about nonmuslim ethnic cleansing (come on , it is called Genocide for a reason). And no body is lifting a finger, but well the west is busy making Iraq and Afghanistan a Vietnam 1 and 2, except that it sadly becomes Vietnam 2 and 3 for the US soldiers. And that makes me worried for the people in USA.

It's sarcasm. Those who know me, know when I say that it's sarcasm, but sadly, not very many know me :(.

Sir, if you want to be sarcastic. Then there are simple ways like this "sarcasm on" I love everybody "sarcasm off" or something similar.

The world is a pretty messed up place and I can't see it changing on it's own, for the better, anytime soon.

I dunno, I've spent some time teaching in Sudan and it struck me as a rather tolerant country (relatively speaking, compared to e.g. Iran) towards other religions... the capital has its share of Christians as well, there's ample churches (not only in the capital) and much of the southern part of the country is Christian (admittedly, the south has been at war with the government for about 40 years, up until 2005 if I'm not mistaken). Free press has recently been re-introduced, too.
Alcohol is outlawed, but the current government has pretty much relented on its plans to introduce the Sharia law nationwide (they're a bit more progressive than the previous Nimeiri government).

Heck, there were four Mohammed's in one of my classes, I used to refer to them as Mohammed 1 thru 3 and Big Mohammed, nobody seemed to care.

Of course there's the whole Darfur thing, people didn't seem to care one bit about that. Do bear in mind that Sudan's one of the biggest countries in the world, and its current shape was determined by the English-Egyptian condominium. There's little to nothing holding the country together.

Not trying to defend Sudan or its government, but I'm tyring to introduce a little nuance into the whole thing.

I dare you to guess the number of Mohammeds in this picture!

(okay, we're straying off point a lil' bit maybe :p)
