So, the new Xbox 360 dash has landed, complete with flat menus, white everywhere and straight lines where there used to be curves. Personally, I'm all a bit 'meh' about it. Whilst the things I like are the things that haven't changed from the previous incarnation, it's just a bit 'change for change's sake' in my opinion, and is quite stark in places. In fact, most of my issues with it come from it freezing up with no indication that it's still OK. For example, if you select something to download you can no longer 'back out' of it (using the guide button) until it's finished loading all the data. It also has a tendency to allow you to press 'A' to OK something, but then have to wait 2 mins before it does anything, with no indication that it's actually acting on your button press - this will be a nightmare if you don't have the tactile feedback - you can't tell if it's crashed or just thinking! Anyway, that's my rant. What do you think? A hit or a miss for MS? (Also, I mourn the loss of the old Xbox 360 start-up logo - I liked the satisfying bass thump every time you started up )
Pretty cool thus far. Also, now that the 360 has been out exactly 5 years (in the US at least), it seems the MS is completely refreshing the platform...everything from new logos, the slimmer system, new packaging designs, new interfaces, and the move to a Kinectd-driven alternative control method. Kind of makes sense, especially if they're going for a 10 year run with this thing...keeps things fresh and new for consumers. It's still technically the same hardware, but the changed look and feel to the packaging and software helps immensely. Look at the Wii...nothing changed there with the exception of a black console and the Wii motion plus. Everything else from the tired packaging to ads still looks basically the same as it did back in 2006.
It is a GIANT step backwards in terms of usability. They sacrificed so much just to add on the Kinect controls, that it just isn't worth it. Plus, with how the Indie Games section is now in the "Specialty Shop" and not part of the games area of the marketplace, I just feel ill.
No, that was the point of going through the beta. Once it goes live, it would take major issues or crashing bugs for another update to come out within a reasonable timeframe. Besides, MS has been killing off the Indie Games section for a while now.
No big deal to me really. 99% of the Indie games on there aren't worth the download. Then again, I've never been a fan of 'homebrew' and user created games to begin with, so yeah.
It's fine. It serves it's purpose. ESPN is watched a couple top ten goals of the season from the MLS and some other league. Totally awesome.
I think alot of the visial changes were maded to the 360 to bring it in line visualy with the style of windows phone 7.. and that could also be why some areas were renamed.
Updated yesterday.....first thought: FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU this just makes me want the good ol´Blades Dash back. (looking at my Jtag 360 and smiling) I needed about 3 minutes just to tell the 360 that I want to to download trailer. So M$: Please stop doing senseless "new" Dash´s that should look pretty (in my opinion it´s ugly)...but dont work oh...and what the **** did you do to the marketplace? Tell me M$! Tell me now!
No idea what people are complaining about, it just looks different while not much has changed from the previous dash, which was perfectly fine, while the blade dash was horrible.
Not too keen on the new look BUT it is faster than the older style plus Japan now gets ZUNE! Yes, late again but at least tonight I could watch Wayne's World in full 1080p with 5.1 surround with no buffering or start up wait. I'm well happy with that service. It's impossible to find Wayne's World in this part of Japan in DVD rental stores. Tomorrow it's Wayne's World 2. Party On! Yakumo
I don't see a speed increase in anything except the initial population of the Game Library (which is great for debugging). I do see myself getting motion sickness trying to browse through Netflix though.
