Zero new games, yes that is right, so far this year I have bought no new games. I have bought a couple of second hand games, but not really anywhere near the numbers I used to buy them in due to the strong yen and lack of games out there. I suppose I am getting to the stage where I have most of the games I really want and I have no desire to get a full set, buying expensive Acclaim games on the Megadrive just doesn't seem sensible. I do have a 3DS but I didn't really buy it, played Pokemon Black too and didn't pay for that either. I have a PS3 and the last game I bought was GT5, a lot of new games that do come out do seem to feel like the same games I've played before... Still looking forward to the Sony Vita launch, although not going to buy that either...
Same here. I bought two 3DS games (Ports: Starfox 64 and Street Fighter IV) - and one Xbox 360 game (Deus Ex: HR - which is a sequel) Other than that, it's all been downloads or used old games. We might be getting old, mate.
I probably got maybe 5 games this year, preowned, and that is all. I did definitely buy hundreds over the two years before.
I'm constantly buying used, old games, but I've only bought a handful of new games this year - mainly 3DS games, and Portal 2 (PS3/PC). I think Portal 2 is actually the only modern console game I've bought this year. I'm seriously considering selling my 360 and buying a Game Boy Light.
It's not the games that are out today which are bad but your age. Last year I was the same with buying mostly older stuff but this year I've bought loads of new stuff. Sure, there's loads of shit out there but there always has been since the days of the first video games. Everyone will go through "games these days are crap" period. It's just part of getting older. Yakumo
Every game I bought this year has been either steam sales (which makes them ridiculously cheap) or IRL for ridiculously cheap (Elder Scrolls IV for £2 for example.)
Only new stuff I've bought this year are the 3DS and half a dozen carts for it, most of which I've played for just 10 minutes and put them back in the box to gather dust. To be honest it's difficult to get arsed about anything lately, never mind games
I've been away most of the year on business trips and whatnot. I just recently bought 2 xbox360 games (brand new, of course). Might go for Forza 4 for Xmas as well. I don't do used games for current gen stuff.
Only new game I bought this year was Battlefield 3 yesterday and I returned it today. Awful awful game. I do have Sonic Generations and Uncharted 3 on preorder though.
Eh, I'm young compared to some of the members here, with me being 19 and all. However, I tend to enjoy retro games and modern games, but graphics have never hindered my immersion in a game, so I guess that's why. Although, the gaming industry these days seems to be more about gimmicks and shiny exteriors, rather than actual gameplay with a concrete story. Let's see... I've bought a 3DS with Zelda OoT 3DS, Dead Island, The Witcher 2, Dead Space 2, Dragon Age 2, and a ton of games on Steam. Usually I'll go for the retail copies of PC games, but some of the Steam offers are too good the pass up to be honest. I haven't really bought any 360 titles this year, nor have I bought any PS3 and Wii titles. They're just sitting there since I'm occupied with my PC games and N64 games. I've bought more older games used than I have newer titles though.
I rarely ever buy a game upon release as I just won't play it right away but nowadays with exclusive LEs, DLC or whatnot sometimes I do end up getting them... Thus far this year I bought the following on release day: Dead Island GameStop SE (PC) Deus Ex: HR Amazon EU LE (PC) Dragon Age II SE (PC) Gears of War 3 Epic Edition (360) Gray Matter DE LE (PC) The Legend of Heroes: Ao no Kiseki Falcom Preorder Only LE (PSP) Like a Dragon: Of the End Sega DX Pack (PS3) Super Meat Boy UK LE (PC) Super Street Fighter IV AE (360) The other half got 3DS Layton, Atelier Meruru, Dance Central 2 and Just Dance Wii upon release. Of course, bought way more old retro stuff than new stuff but that's the nature of the industry.
Those two games and Batman: Arkham City are the only ones that interest me this year. It's not like I have much time to game these days anyway. ^^;
Games bought on release day? None since Halo 3. Maybe I'll drop full coin on the re-release of Halo this month but I want to see more of it before I buy my third copy of Halo. Everything I've purchased this year has been 100% second hand even if it was essentially new. Full price? You're funny, I didn't own a 360 for the better part of two years and have a backlog of cheap entertainment waiting for me.
I'm not quite sure how many I bought. According to my collection schedule the number's about 250+ so far since January 1st.
But of them how many have you even played, never mind played to the point of completion and how many were bought just for buyings sake? I think that's the problem for a lot of us, ennui set in long ago and we now just buy games rather than buy games to play them.
I haven't bought any new games this year, but then I don't own any of the current systems to play them on... don't worry, though - I'll probably end up getting a PS3 at some point in the future, just as I eventually did with its predecessor! My priority is increasingly emulating vintage arcade titles and discovering software I'd previously neglected for whatever reason on retro consoles.
