Hello, I've got a Sega Saturn Pal Model 1 MK-80200, and i was wondering if you can help me. I want to do the swap trick using my Saturn, but I opened I up to find that there isn't a switch that you can use to trick the Saturn that's it's always closed by sellotaping it down. I watched video's, and with every one I've seen, they had the switch that I don't have. Why is this, is it because of the old folks at Sega caught up to this work around for playing CD-R's on the system. I haven't heard anything about it, but that's what I presume. Is there a way around this problem, cheers.
There has to be a switch mechanism somewhere. You might have to look around for it. In my Model 1 US console I had it was just something easily taped down.
lol it need to have a switch, or else how the system is suppose to know when the lid is closed... Can you take a pic of it and post here?
I can't, but it looks exactly like this one. It says on this guys blog to tape something down around the area of the arrow, but I don't know what. Sellotaping the clip down, just makes it unable to close. Edit: Don't worry I've found it, and it works, after about an hour of figuring it out! Happy Days :friendly_wink:
Cant see how it works, but if you really want to do this, you could strip and cross the wires of the door button
It seems to be hot glued down but im really unsure. You could strip part of the wire and then tape them together and it should have the same effect.
Don't strip the wire. Just unplug the end that goes into the motherboard and find a connector that fits and loop it together, it'll always think it is closed then. You shouldn't damage the wires or switch incase it ever needs to be reverted back. If you do something with the wires you should mount an external switch to toggle closed/open from the outside of the console as needed.
I didn't know if a jumper would fit but that is a great idea. You might want to put tape over it incase it should come loose, you wouldn't want a piece of free moving metal bouncing around.
You don't have a plastic tab to tape down? That's all you have to do... You don't tape down the lid casing you tape down a white tab some where on the motherboard you can't miss it.
The VA0 models have a different style switch. He posted a picture above. It is actually in the top casing.
