You mean like post processing video filters that alleviate some of the graphical work so more attention can be focused on gameplay dynamics?
That's how I read it. But of course you could expand that definition a bit and also plug in a physics engine, AI pathfinding, ..., thus freeing even more time to spend on making good content instead of tech.
Exactly.... with so many practically ready-to-go solutions nowadays (Unreal Engine 3/4, Unity, etc.), you would think it would leave more time and resources for actually making an enthralling game, but such is not the case I really miss actually being excited for new games to release..... Its almost making me wonder if games today really ARE that shitty? Or am I just becoming a cynical old bastard? lol
