This news is a few months old, but I haven't seen much discussion about it aside from a handful of posts on a couple other forums. The first episode of the awesome Half-Life single player zombie themed mod has been ported to Dreamcast, using the same technique others have used to port Counter-Strike and Opposing Force. Still in early beta, so right now saving is disabled and it suffers from periodic crashes. There hasn't been any updates to this first beta release, since the guy working on it stated he hasn't had the time lately. Hopefully we'll see a new version soon, with the random crashes fixed and saving enabled. Should mention it does support the mouse and keyboard. Anyway, heres the Megaupload link for the CDI image, along with a few screenshots of it running. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3JL9Q92V
Awesome... Gonna try it as soon as I'm able to burn CDI files again... Hope to see more Halflife / Quake III mods coming to the Dreamcast .
I am necroposting, but for good reason! Yesterday, Dreammatrix released Beta 3 of They Hunger for Dreamcast! Problem is, it is only the raw files, and I have no idea how to use Bootdreams, as I only ever make coasters, or cd's where the menu comes up but you cant select anything. Would somebody care to make a CDI out of this for us less tech savy Dreamcast gamers? I know how to burn games, but only if they are in ISO format. http://rapidshare.com/files/404910923/data.rar Thanks a lot guys and I hope someone can help us out! XD
Lol, that wold be epic. Still have a problem though, we need a CDI file of this lol, I have tried EVERYTHING using Bootdreams, and I just made drink coasters.
By the way, the source remake never made it... PS: Any of you guys tried the Mission Information mod, that is based on the leaked HL2 content? I'm curious to see if it's worth the download.
Hey Johnny, do you know how to make a bootable CDI out of this? I have posted this on like 5 forums, and nobody can tell me how to successfuly make a disc. Every time I make one using Bootdreams, it never works on my Dreamcast. This sucks cause I really liked the first beta of this.
Hey, here is a selfbooting CDI image! Download, burn and enjoy! http://rs846.rapidshare.com/files/407214315/They_Hunger_Beta_3.7z
Nice, I had kind of forgotten about this. Thanks for an update with a link to the new version. Has there been much significant improvement over the old version?
And to think that valve couldn't get any publisher for HL because no-one wanted to risk any money on a game made by a pair of nobodies that seemed wouldnt never get it done. CS could've been Dreamcast's Halo, but even that wouldn't have saved it.
Well, for one, you use the weapons from the PC version, like the umbrella instead of the damn crowbar! There is a marked improvement over the first beta in terms of speed and brightness! Also, this one includes episodes 2 and 3! They may not be 100% perfect like episode 1 is, but it is great to have them included! I just burned it after I posted it here, and have been enjoying this version way more than the first. The Counter-Strike Dreamcast Dev Dreammatrix picked this up after I started asking about the original DC porter making a new version, and when I did he vanished from the Racketboy Sega forums lol. I guess if I didn't ask for a new version, we might not have one now. Also, are you aware about Paranoia HL mod fully ported to Dreamcast now? It's final version was completed 3 months ago.
I downloaded and played it a couple of years back. Was very interesting seeing some of the alternative scenarios of what could have been and playing through the E3 tech demo bits. I'm sure they've probably added more to it since as it's an ongoing thing. I don't subscribe to a lot of their opinions that the beta content was better but that's me. Also there's Half Life: Black Ops on DC which I personally haven't tried but does look good.
Most underated console of all time homeboy. Sony hype must have brainwashed you too, or you are too much of a Nintendo fanboy to see that the Dreamcast was THE last true hardcore gaming system eh? IGN even had a special on it, that casual gamers would feel left out, and for a Fighter, and Shmup fan, it is a paradise! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hh38cXXGc-E Maybe you just aren't hardcore enough for the Dreamcast buddy? :-(
