Whilst out looking for something good for my DS (Didn't find anything though) I noticed that Sony have released another version of the PSX. Don't they understand that nobody wants this heap of over priced crap? The new version is cheaper than the original and looks it too. Only this time it's PSP compatable. Not too sure how though but it says so on the sticker. Take a look at both units that I photoed today in Toys R Us. The new version looks so plasticy. ORIGINAL NEW VERSION Yakumo
what size is it? there is nothing to scale it against. And it's just the same as a Playstation/PSone right? *quite likes the look of it*
If it can run psp games on a normal tv, it might actualy be worth getting one (although I see no ports for such a thing), assuming that the final version of the ps3 won't be able to play them (or have an adapter) at least.
IIRC, you can transfer recorded videos from the new PSX to the PSP. I don't think that this was possible with previous versions.
Hmm, not worth buying then if that's it's PSP compatability Then again they're not worth buying anyway. @Le Spank - The PSX is very big and bulky. Much like a old video recorder but square. Yakumo
hmmmm well if it has a HD (and you can put a modchip in) then i would buy it over a PS2 slim since since it is beginning to be hard to find an old PS2 in DK buy ok i could always look in "The Blue Paper" (a second hand trade and buy/sell newspaper) so that is just my two cents
...Does it come fitted with a HDD then? If 'yes'... ...Does it direct boot off a HDD, like an Xbox? ...Can you run games off it? ...Or is it like a PS2 HDD setup, i.e sh*t.
the PS2 PSX is a HardDisk DVD recorder and plays PS2 games and original playstation games. and if i remember right the drive was a DVD burner drive but i could be talking bullshit without even knowing it.
what does one Dreamcast do that another won't? It still doesn't stop people including you I believe from having multiple versions of the same system. It is a fine system that has more capability than a normal ps2...if you love ps2(not me so much) then of course you should want it.
I think you're missing the point here. I have many Dreamcasts because I collect them. They all cost around the same price too. They weren't released as a NEW console, just a different design. The PSX on the other hand was SONY's attempt to take over the HD Video recorder market in Japan. THey are getting too greedy. Anyway, the PSX fell flat on it's arse right from the start. It plays PS2 games as well as being an avarage HD recorder with of course SONY's own systems making it a bitch to rip things with. The price is a whopping 69'999 yen !!! That's a lot of money. A decent real HD recorder will only set you back 50'000 yen to 60'000 yen so why buy something that cost more and looks out of place with the rest of yor equipment and not to mention look quite bulky (It's bigger than the original XBOX) The truth is that the PSX isn't aimed at anyone. People after a HD recorder won't buy it due to price, design and size. Gamers won't buy it again because of price mainly. So who will buy it? People who want a PS2 and a HD Recorder. How many of these people do you think there are? Not enough to support a system. Yakumo
The video recording functions will be totally useless outside of Japan, and I doubt any normal PS2 mod chips will be compatible. Anyone who buys one of those outside Japan should be shot even more than someone in Japan who does...
I think the PSX is ahead of its time, and it's where the machines are heading. I mean, the current gen play DVDs (excl. GC), and XBMC is a wonderful thing. In fact, an Xbox running XBMC can do everything the PSX can do, except record TV. M$ released the Media Extender for the current Xbox, and X360 will have it built in(?). If you can have one box under the telly that plays games, DVDs and all video/music formats from HDD/streamed from PC surely that's pretty cool?
Don't forget that the retail of the first one was over 100,000 yen. Probably the reason why nobody bought it. It's roughly the size of... well... damn near a turntable. Imagine a gigantic PS2.
