Water cooling is not worth it if you feel you'll mess up. It's also as noisy as regular aircooling but without the risk of condensation. I've seen some watercooling setups where one guy even used the radiator from a 1979 Toyota Corolla and it was very quiet because it didn't use any fans, the flow of the water, from the top to the bottom cooled itself quite nicely. If you're going to look into aftermarket heatsinks, look up thermalright and thermaltake (only if you can't find any thermalrights ). Show us the case you plan on getting.
water cooling is expensive and a little hard to set up. Unless you plan to OC everything on your rig you wont need it. Go with fans. My current PC has 9 fans in it if you count the cpu and Vid fan. As far as cases go just tell them you need a full size ATX case. Most cases are. Its commone sense to get one that looks like your new mobo will fit into. Also look at the front and see how many cdroms it can hold. Most cases will come with a decent power supply but if you want more power you can pull out the stock power supply and replace it with a bigger one. Other than that and maybe a extra fan the only wires will be coming from the front of the case for the power switch and reset switch and also the power and HDD leds. These little wires will hook onto your new motherboard when you get it put in.
About my CD and DVD drives, how do I find out their size? Im looking at some PC cases right now and was wondering what to get for my PC and DVD drives. Im interested in this one. http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0234674 Which of those specs tell me about whether or not both my Cd and DVD drives can go in?
cd-rom and dvd roms as well as burners are all the same size. ANY rom will fit in that case just fine. You will have no problems using that case if you want.
Just so you know, a dvd or cd drive would be 5 1/4 (five and a quarter) inches. A hard drive will be 3 1/2 (three and a half) inches. Somtimes you'll see hard drives listed as "half height". Don't worry about that, all modern hard drives are half height, it's an old term left over from the 80's.
Ok, I guess thats it, then. I've got it all sorted out, and now I just need to order the parts. Oh and I changed my mind about water cooling. I'll just use old fashioned fans in it. Thanks for all your help guys! P.S.--I know I'll come back asking a few questions when I need to put these things together.
That's a great case there mr. casual. Thermaltake does know how to make high quality cases and they come with all the basics you need. such as screws, mobo standoffs.
Yeah and it matches my new computer desk! :110: EDIT: BTW there is a Microcenter close to me in Texas, so I can get everything I need in the store. :icon_bigg
Something that I forgot to mention above: make sure that you put the case fans in the right way. If you point all of your fans inward, you create a pressure cooker; outward creates a vacuum. You will want to have a mix. Generally, have the inward pointing fans in the front, bottom portion of the case and the outward ones in the back and top of the case (heat rises).
