The PC game "Gone Home" is getting a physical release on a SNES style box. It also includes some extra stuff like the soundtrack and a poster. http://www.destructoid.com/gone-home-goes-physical-with-an-snes-box-277496.phtml This somehow reminded me of not only console games (with their commom extra posters and promotional folders) but also the shareware days of PC games, where you you could order full PC games by mail (Doom anyone?). Anyway, i really hope more indie devs start to make these kind of releases, specially for PC games.
It seems there's enough people interested in it. You can even subscribe and get a different boxed game each month (https://www.theindiebox.com/). I like the nostalgia, but I'm spoiled by bundles and Steam sales to the point where I'll rarely pay more than $5 for a PC game.
See! i knew MS-DOS PC is like the SNES in some ways. lol jk but, that box looks pretty tight, i love it! i'd wished PC games back in the day had these sorta boxes like that one.
Thanks for the link sonicsean89. Didn't knew of that one. Found another indie game that does something similar, A.N.N.E. It even includes a snes mockup cartridge and a SNES usb controller. But it's expensive. http://gamesbymo.bigcartel.com/product/a-n-n-e-complete-bundle
Man they plan to milk this pretentious POS until its bone dry don't they? As for the boxes, for me that's stuff from an era that is over, I'm done with nostalgic stuff and to be frank crappy cardboard boxes that would tear and break are not what I miss from those days. Quality gaming, now thats something that should do a comeback...
