F1 fan, huh? (Don't tell me the result of the race - I've not watched it yet!) Here's a couple of links to other views of the same type of helmet: http://drumsolodrumsologuitarsolo.blogspot.com/2007/06/french-firefighter-helmet.html http://www.teslogos.com/collection_de_casques_de_pompiers.html
I would imagine that the official French Fighters website might have something of interest for shiny helmet buffs! http://www.pompiers.fr/ Believe it or not you can even buy a replica helmet, although I doubt it is anything near as beautiful as the genuine article. http://laboutique.pompiersdefrance.org/product_info.php?products_id=4769
I was expecting this thread to be about Nicolas Sarkozy or some other French political leader being fired. But then, the 'beautiful' part threw me off... ▼ ▼

Check this out, the guys' got a nice collection of French helmets, BTW pompier means fireman, the one you are referring too is the F1. http://www.teslogos.com/collection_de_casques_de_pompiers.html That link got a tiny bit of info on these helmets in French http://sp13riri.free.fr/dossiers/casques/ I'm pretty sure I've seen some old fireman helmets for sale at carboots in France. They've been like that for decades, so I guess it's bungie who ripped off a bit the design for halo... And last but not least you can even buy some of these helmets: http://www.ruedespompiers.com/famille218.html and on ebay http://shop.ebay.fr/?_from=R40&_npmv=3&_trksid=m38&_nkw=casque+pompier+f1&_nd1=See-All-Categories Should be easy to source if you want one, but I don't know how much they weigh
Im not gunna lie. Those are pretty god damn big pimpin'. Look how damn reflectiony and shiny! DAMN! h:
http://www.teslogos.com/casque_de_pompier_du_vaucluse.html Someone must have decided his job at Avignon fire department didn't pay enough, so he is selling off his helmet!
I'm curious what they are made of, surely not something as thermally conductive as metal, yet they have the same shiny look. Building the face protection right in is a great idea too, as it gives a closed-off mask against those pesky explosions or flares. I hadn't seen one of these until before now, but I'd love to actually see one in person. No, I have no real for helmets but I do find the design intriguing.
theyre most likeley made from carbon fibre or another lightweight heat retardant composite, coated with a heat repelling coat (you can buy that paint in a spraycan, not cheap tho). theyre not made of metal  with that colour the metal in case would be a copper alloy of somekind, not only would the helmets be ridiculously heavy but also extremely conductive.
