I just got my Shield tablet and after fiddiling with it for awhile, I can say that its the best tablet I've ever had. It replaced some shitty iPad 3 that I gave to my Mom due to her lack of experience with Android. Before, she had some crap Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 that I got for free with my Note 3 from AT&T that I gave to her. Everything's great about it: screen, OS, dat Tegra K1, reception on AT&T and wifi and other cool stuff. Only thing that worries me is maybe the camera which is apperantly the same Omnivision found in the 2013 Nexus 7. Go figure Whats your thoughts on the tablet? Do you own one? Would you like one? If you use a tablet as a camera, you're an idiot. The original Shield controller that I tested was a very interesting idea. From what I heard, they royally screwed it up with the tablet redesign. The specs certainly don't look that impressive. Pretty terrible, actually. Apart from the GPU, perhaps.
I used it to scan a QR code (Adblock Plus) and it seemed a bit fuzzy. I have to admit, they should've used the 64 bit k1 instead of the 32 bit version but its sufficient enough.
Amazing tablet, still the best performance on the market, dirt cheap, God awful build quality (I fear mine won't be one piece by the summer at the rate it's going). Really my love of the Shield led me to pick up a Jetson TK1 linux board (same processor).
IMO, I think its good. Love the fact that its rubberized plastic which makes it grippy. I dont like the fact that crumbs and dirt can easily pile up in the speaker holes.
Even though the Nexus 9 has the same RAM and storage but a faster CPU (by 0.1 GHz lol), bigger and higher resolution screen and better battery? SD support is a must for me, though - I must admit. Wait for the Xperia Z4 at the end of the year - very nice spec! If it isn't outspecced by a competitor by then. I don't understand the huge delay!
Better battery and higher resolution yes. But CPU? On 3dMark, it seems the Shield is more powerful than the Nexus maybe because it's either dual core or its based on the A53 instead of the A57 which is MUCH more powerful than the quad A15 solution in the Shield. That or Nvidia cheated!
Dual core AND 64 bit! With more cache. Same GPU, of course. The Denver won here: http://www.mobiledroid.co.uk/blog/soc-royal-rumble-ipad-air-2-vs-nexus-9-vs-china-tablet-socs/ Way better at single core here: http://www.gsmarena.com/tegra_k1_denver_and_nexus_9_benchmarked-news-9953.php ...but interesting real-world comments. The Nexus aspect ratio seems more conducive to retro gaming, too. Ultimately, they should probably have a range of Shields... including something larger with a higher resolution. Give us choice.
