For the past few weeks, I have been thinking of getting an aPad from HERE. To me it looks pretty appetizing, but I've never dealt with this website before.

I've never used Android, is this thing going to be powerful enough to run some decent apps? Movies/Music/Emulators is what I'm most concerned about. Anybody have one of these, and if you do, where did you get it? I'm in north-west Florida, so ordering one online is basically my only option.

A worthy opponent to the ipad, however it cannot handle videos of a decent resolution, so I did not get one.

As an android device, it has some nice things. The video problem killed it for me though.

Its running Android 1.5... I stay well clear of it. It probably won't ever get any updates and the marketplace will soon leave it behind.

...if it even has the marketplace to begin with. AFAIK you need Google's approval to install it, which I doubt the producers bothered to get, since that'd mean extra efforts and costs, which would lower their profit margins ...

Just because it doesn't have Marketplace, doesn't mean I can't install apps, right? I can use something like SAM or just install from my PC?

Well, yeah, if you have the apk file you can just install that. But if the app you want is only distributed via the marketplace, you might not be able to get your hands on said apk, meaning you're sol. (Don't know how many apps are markeplace-only though.)

As far as I know (I haven't gotten mine yet...DX) this thing does have access to the Android marketplace. There are custom firmwares already and for the price there's not much that can go wrong. If it ever arrives that is.
Also they (the 'real' 2nd gen Rockchip Apads/iRobots/iWebs w/ camera) seem to support at least some of those 3G sticks via USB :p

Alright, thanks for all the info. I've found a "real" aPad with the Rockchip and camera for a pretty decent price. I'll order it in a bit and report back with how it's working for me.
