I just figured out a new easter egg I didn't know about in THPS2X! In the 2X exclusive Tampa Level there is a dog on a deckchair holding a drink and watching TV (WTF?!). You can find him on the roof of the skatehall. There are 2 major ways to get up I found: - Grind up by using the wires from the lamps on the outside section (Didn't try that yet) - As soon as you spawn you will be heading towards a quarterpipe at the other side of the hall. Use that ramp to jump all the way to the ceiling of the hall (I used moon physics), there is a thin wire there which you have to grind. Once on it there should be an opening to the left and right in the roof. You can jump through that opening and you'll find the dog on the roof. You can also jump on the other buildings from the roof and you won't be reset unless you jump down to the ground. In the subway level (Also 2X exclusive) one of the rails (Of the stairs down from one of the entrance. It's the one around the corner to the right from the startpoint) is broken and will always result in a "kissed the rail" when grinding it up. Holding Y will create a grind-loop which can be held even once the round has ended. It will increase the score by 2 a few times per second. During the round you can also use a nosegrind to speed up the process. Another thing I noticed was that some of my skaters have 10 tapes in the THPS2X carreer while others have 12 (!). For those characters they also have 30 tapes in THPS1 while some have 36 (!). How is that possible? Is it just a bug? What are your thoughts? Bug or not? Did anyone else know about the dog easter egg yet? Also why aren't there any goals in the Subway and Rooftops levels? Comment!
I own THPSX2 as well, so I will be checking these out shortly. Had no idea they were there. Solid find!
Also, is there any way to light Spiderman and Officer Dick (and probably Trixie) in the frame of the Cheats menu? Normally it highlights completed characters, but for some reason it doesn't light those for me. I might take a video of the easter egg if you can't find it btw.
I always wanted this game. I remember playing it on a kiosk shortly after the Xbox launch, and I thought it looked pretty cool. I'd also kind of like to get THPS2 for Dreamcast, as I've heard that's a pretty good port.
THPS2X is the best Tony Hawk game imho. You get to play the original THPS2 career, the entire THPS1 career [with THPS2 skaters, music and physics] and even some Xbox exclusive maps with their own career (poor quality though). All of the maps have improved graphics (especially the grass looks really good) and some new graphic effects / areas which were slightly altered but not influencing gameplay. The only maps which look somewhat worse (missing lighting) are the Xbox exclusive maps.. they are not even worth playing except for the club because there is no flow. Treyarch even made custom board graphics of the developers (drawn, so they probably put a lot of effort into it) which can be seen in the credits. The menu was also improved and the loading times are often reduced. You also get videos in good quality like on PC.
I always played the DC version (2). One of the first games I completed 100%. Good times! My buddy had 2X and that was a blast to play together. I should pick that up soon!
I really didn't care for the new menus/interface, but THPS2x is a great game. As someone who spends a lot of time in the park editor, the new themes Treyarch included were greatly appreciated. The dog in Tampa is definitely news to me, as well! I guess I just didn't play that stage enough.
I can certainly vouch for the DC port of THPS2, my favorite game ever. An improvement over the psx one IMO, but I can't talk about THPS2X as I didn't ever heard of it before now. Also, you didn't finish 100% unless you did all the gaps and cleared the career with Trixie/Carrera!
It's a great game but my favorite Tony Hawk Game is probably Underground or pro skater 4 or American Wasteland. Pro skater 4 gets brutal once you clear the regular career.
Yeah I'm going for the 100% at the moment. I completed the game with 6 characters now (10 / 12 Tapes, 30/36 Tapes, $150000 cash) and collected all gaps already. Underground was horrible and THPS4 was okish - it felt cheap somehow. Didn't play AW too much (other than completing the story once), it was too huge and too many sidemissions with no skating. Also, I went up to the dog again and checked with the "Skip Restart" "Cheat" (got it by completing twice (?)). You can actually spawn near the dog using "Top Hatch of Park" - however, if you do this the dog seems to be gone! You can also spawn near the Hatch using the "On The Center Beam" restart and then jump to the right to get to the top of the roof. Once done the dog will be there. I also noticed that if you jump over the dog (at the correct angle) it will be gone again and you will be awarded a gap called "Cong Ollie! Lost Dog Found!!" On the subway level there is a small secret area - It seems to open up once you use the entrance gates upstairs. The train on the seperate rail will change position and reveal a small area with a pipe and an alligator under some gate. For some odd reason Trixie also has 12 Tapes for THPS2X now and is lit in the cheat menu (THPS1 career not started, THPS2 completed too). I guess I'll have to disassemble the game at some point to figure it out. //Edit: Trixie is back at 10 Tapes now - so either this has to do with high scores or it's a bug.
I just completed the game with all skaters 100% except "Skater D" and for doing all gaps on the levels which don't have a gap list. I still plan to do Skater D but won't be doing the gaps probably (I'd probably write a tool to extract gap lists and check my savegame if I have them already). So here is a summary of some more bugs I came accross: I noticed that Skater B actually maps to Officer Dick and Skater C maps to Spiderman in the Cheat menu! So if you create a custom skater in the second slot and complete that TH2 career Officer Dick will be lit in the Cheat menu frame. The same for the third slot and Spiderman. Pretty sure that this is a bug and unwanted behaviour. Also, when completing some (?) levels with Skater B and Skater C it asked me wether I wanted to visit the new level "Skate Heaven" instead of the actual new level - I'm not sure if I ever picked "Yes" but even if I did it never took me to Skate Heaven - so there seems to be a display bug there. The 12 / 10, 36 / 30 tapes issue is also very likely a bug: It seems to happen if you save during TH1 / TH2X with no (?) progress on TH2. If you reload your game it seems to award 100% Goal tapes for every normal level (Club and Construction Yard; Woodland, School, Mall, Mineapolis, Downhill Jam, SF) even though it doesn't exist. Sometimes it corrects itself, sometimes it doesn't. I have 3 Skaters (Rodney M., Bob B., Skater B which were completed in 2 days and all of those show the bug). All other skaters don't show the bug and were done in one session. Trixie is also 12 / 10 sometimes but this seems to change whenever I pick her, I believe I also did her in 2 sessions on the same day but I'm not sure. There is another weird bug with (at least) the NPC in the Club level which doesn't have animation in Free Skate and Single Session for me - all bodyparts are in his stomach so he appears head- and limbless. If anyone wants to find all gaps on the Subway Level: There are 4 billboards / posters next to the entrance (2 left, 2 right) which have a wallride gap. The game is also very picky about grinding the rails. The oddest bug I had was in the TH1 School level: After about 6 completed skaters every (including those I hadn't started) skater was automaticly rewarded "1 Lunch Table Grind" including sound and text on spawn in the school. Once I would grind a table it would then make the sound and print the text like ten times. This would automaticly count up the grinds to "5 Lunch Table Grinds" and reward me with the tape (Essentially only making it necesary to grind 1 Table). Once I had the tape it kept making the sound when grinding a table - no text though. The Bug is also present in the non-career modes as far as I remember (Making the sound but not acutally showing text) However, the bug did not exist for Skater B and Skater C. I'm also pretty sure there are more easter eggs (and bugs) but I couldn't find them yet. I still expect a hidden area / easter egg in Tampa (Near the toilets or another building) and the Club level (Behind the bar). I also suspect one in the Rooftops level and probably another original level such as Crane Drop or Skate Heaven. It would probably require a Level editor to find it if there is anything. A tiny easter egg is probably the gravity of the yellow globe behind Tonys House. You can stand *under* it and skate around it. However, if you reach the actual bottom side of it it will usually throw you off. //Edit: Just moved the game to another Xbox and cheated to get the TH1 career. Oddly enough this will give you 35 TH1 tapes [instead of possible 30] and also $900000 TH2 cash [instead of possible $150000] - What's up with that? //Edit: Also the N64 bug still exists: When playing with the analog stick you can spin any special trick. So you can easily turn a 900 into a 0° or a 1800° "900 The 900". 900° Backflip? No problem! I usually play with digipad but use the analog to spin my specials.
OMFG! Found another easter egg(?) in THPS2X which I never knew about before. At construction site, dallas texas you can actually turn the crane! You do this by smashing the 6 green fuse boxes which are on each of the smaller buildings surrounding the park. Once you destroy all of them the crane will turn about 20 degree and the glass will shatter. The crane will point slightly more down and at one of the quarter pipes on top of the building. Also the gap you get when grinding on it is a different one. I'm still trying to find an easter egg on the rooftops level because it's the only xbox exclusive level I haven't found anything special so far.
