In the wake of the THQ Humble Bundle, they have now officially filed bankruptcy http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/12/19/thq-files-for-bankruptcy It will be interesting to see what happens with the various THQ franchises, such as Saints Row, etc.
It's really upsetting to me. They were my favorite of the larger game publishers out there. I hope they come out of this okay
Reading that article it seems they'll be ok once the deal is done? Mention of a new Saints Row and other titles etc.
On one hand, this is bad because they've put out some really good games in the past few years: Saints Row The Third, Darksiders 1 & 2, Red Faction Guerrilla... on the other hand, they actually spent a ton of money developing and advertising something as monumentally retarded as Homefront.
LOL XD !! Another one bites the dust, indeed. Seems the Humble Bundle wasn't enough to save them. I wonder who is going to buy all their stuff, hope someone from around here does it
Whoops, didn't know there has been an update, I read the news on another site actually but with no mention of this new deal, seems they'll be fine though now.
Wow a company being brought back from the Dead, that makes me Happy- shame the world is gonna end LOL
Im sad about this, that gamecompanies can die... lucky us/them So im partly happy again. but sad remembering the "others". ow, please buy all the loot they lose and sell it here
Probably because they didn't have the track record or IP. Blur is owned by Activision, Project Gotham is owned by MS, The Club is owned by SEGA. The only IP they actually owned was Geometry Wars, and sadly there wasn't much more they could do with that franchise beyond what they'd already done. Their games were good but Blood Stone and Blur didn't go down as well as they hoped. I was really wanting for them to be bought, but in retrospect they didn't have much. THQ actually owns a large swathe of IP and their games are hot titles. Whilst they have made mistakes with their games, they realised that their previous management made a lot of mistakes with licensed kids' games and investing too much in the uDraw. Unfortunately, they left that decision too late to pull up before crashing into the ground. Luckily, they've got plenty of good-quality salvage, and even more fortunate is that someone wants to stick it all back together as it is and make it fly again. Um.... I'm out of plane-based analogies.
they need to reboot red faction with a high profile FPS title, and could even do a decent RTS with it or even turn based ala XCOM
