Over the past few month i have been working on some large projects, one of which is an IOS app. Development on this app is going extremely well, i've been doing most of the work on a hackintosh desktop and i am in need of a laptop to continue to work from remote locations. I've been collecting development consoles recently and although i don't wish to sell them, i feel this project is of somewhat higher importance. My question is what would you do given the following options. 1. Sell some dev consoles and buy a slightly last gen MBP, because i should be developing on a real mac. 2. Don't sell any dev consoles and save for while for a MBP, slowing down the project. 3. Use existing funds to build a hackintosh laptop.
I'd say build the hackintosh. Only difference between it and a Windows version of same hardware is OS and cost. If the hackintosh is done right no one will know the difference. But I guess you knew that from your desktop already. It'll be hard to get dev stuff back if you sell it off. Took me 6 months to find my Sega Demo System DS-16 and that isn't even dev hardware. It's just store kiosk cart jukebox.
That's what i fear, not being able to get it back. Sometimes it's hard to justify not selling some rare items that get little to no use when you need something of equal value. Lets face it, i'm most likely never going to spend years of my life developing an engine for an outdated console. At most i will just write a few programs to play around with. That being said i went ahead and purchased a new haswell macbook air. I never thought i would buy anything that had an Intel graphics chip in it, but the HD5000 seems to actually do decent. Besides this is for IOS development and im willing to bet the HD5000 is still way overkill compared to a A6 chip. I knew all of those bestbuy gift cards from previous Christmases would come in handy one day!
