So I'll be going 'paradise' with a few friends soon, and the flight is around 4 hours. I'm wondering what I could do within those 4 hours of sitting down in a confined space, as I haven't been on a plane for a while. I current have with me: Tablet (android 4.0.1), iPhone 3GS, Nintendo 3DS, and PSP... Sadly I can't take any consoles mainly because I have no bloody idea if the TV in the suite has AV inputs and usually they don't from what I've heard. I'm thinking of stacking emulators on the PSP and playing some Genesis,SNES and NES games on it any body happy to mention a few games I should include? Any other suggestions will be good too :friendly_wink:
If you have a laptop: Bring an AC adaptor and make sure you have tv shows/movies/emulators w/games on it. Modern airplanes often provide power plugs in the sear in front of you. I watched Battle Garegga superplays and The Walking Dead on my flight from Europe last week. It was pretty cool, although I think the splatter scenes traumatized the woman who was sitting behind me Lol
I don't fly a lot, but I occasionally have to travel for around 4 hours, and I have to agree with reading a book, it passes the time for me really fast. Even though I usually have an iPad with me, I still prefer to read.
I'd keep handy the tablet, the PSP (with emulators and games) and 1 physical (printed) book. I tend to change my mind as to what to do in free time like this (flying), so having these 3 gets me covered. In my case, I don't have a tablet, so I'd take my notebook, and I'd change the book for my Kindle. As for which games... it really depends on what kind of games you like... You should make a list of games you want to play (for all platforms) and keep it handy for situations like these.
And to be honest, I think everyone should read a book every once in a while instead of just watching TV and playing video games :friendly_wink: Even better if the book you read isn't Hunger Games/video game or "big franchise" (Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who etc.) related/Dan Brown/John Grisham/Chuck Palahniuk.
I have to agree, read a book. Not some fictitious crap either, read a factual book and use the time to learn something new!
I fly a lot and 8+ hour journeys are common. Going with what people have said, do bring a good book or magazine as you will find it passes the time quicker as you will have periods where you can not use electronic devices. Try only to have one device with you as you wont want to wear anything heavy so the only storage space you will have is a bag under the seat or the seat pocket. Personally I would keep under your seat clear as you will want to stretch. If you do want to use lots of devices then make sure to get an aisle seat so you do not annoy people by asking them to move every time you want to change device. Not all planes have seat power and even if they do you might need to buy a cigarette or Empower (TM) adapter to use a laptop, although some have USB charging points. If they have power points then generally only two prong euro plugs or US/Japanese power plugs will work. In Cattle class using a laptop can be a pain to use if the person in front has their seat back. Personally the air on a plane means you dont really feel like playing games for more then an hour, although if I was going to bring anything then bring a PSP. Longest journey I had was from Tasmania to Dublin, Launceston to Sydney, Sydney to London with a two hour stop off in Bangkok, London to Dublin, I think that was about 22 hours... even this year I have gone from Tokyo to London to Sau Paulo to Brasilia, Brasilia to Sao Paulo to London, London to Helsinki, Helsinki to Oslo to Stavanger, Stavanger to Bergen to Stockholm to Lisbon. In two weeks I have Lisbon to London to Las Vegas, Las Vegas to Chicago, Chicago to Columbus to Miami to St Georges (GND) and then back again to London in two weeks from then.
I fly a lot and I usually bring my Kindle or just use my Windows Phone on Airplane mode. I have a NES and GB emulator on my WP and that usually does the trick in terms of providing a few hours of retro gaming fun whilst in the air. Depending on the airline, some have standard AC outlets (or USB charging ports) in the business class seats.
I never needed entertainment during flights (even the long 12 hours ones). Enjoy it as it is or try to sleep.
For books well I don't really have money to buy any at the moment :/ so I've got a bunch of comics on my tablet to read. Sadly I don't own a laptop so I can't really bring movies. Any how, thanks for everyone's input and so I'll be bringing my PSP and Tablet also my 3DS gotta finish Ridge Racer
I always bring a ton of stuff with me to play with when I fly, but usually I end up spending the majority of the flight either sleeping or staring out the window. I love the view. However, if I have time, sometimes I'll watch a movie. If you're going to watch a movie on a laptop, say, it's a good idea to have it ripped to your drive, rather than playing a disc, because it saves power. If you have a 3DS, play Super Mario 3D Land. That's a pretty fun game.
Don't have a laptop ... Anyway, I have Super Mario 3D Land and a few other games on the 3DS and loaded PSP so I should be fine
You're inferring that it's not possible to learn anything from a fiction book, which I obviously can't agree with.
make sure that you test your videos and everything before you go. Im on vacation in mexico right now, and the 6 hour flight over here wasnt the best because my anime .playback was really choppy. Damn beta rom on my tablet makes everything lag like hell. besides that, books are a very good thing to bring. Try American Psyco if you havent already seen the movie or read the book.
Regardless of what you bring, enjoy the flight. I absolutely love flying and the whole airport experience. It never gets old for me, despite the frequency of which I fly for work.
