Today is the 5th anniversary of the US release of the Sega Dreamcast.

I still remember finding a Japanese one on some random auction site for $160 (cheap considering new from NCSX at the time cost over $300)

I also knew a friend who payed hundreds of $$$$ for one shortly after the Japanese release. :smt043

What are your thoughts on your first experiences/encounters with the Dreamcast on 9-9-99?

  2. I saw one running in an import shop shortly after Japanese release. I remember that Xmas they were going for silly amounts of cash, like £300-400. To be honest, I wasn't initially that impressed with VF3tb and the other release games.

But I was there on the day for my Pal DC. By that time, the software was well impressive.

DC is still going, looking forward to Chaos Field.

    Wooo :prayer: Dreamcast

i played a japanese import model at a toy store in japantown in april or may of 99, played virtua fighter 3tb, and i remeber the controller feeling a little too small for my hands (really sore after playing for 15 minutes) .. but didnt have the same problem at all when my US DC arrived on 9/9. soul calibur's shipping was delayed and didnt arrive for a few more days, so i went out that morning and bought tokyo highway battle and took the rig to work with me :)

I played the early version of Sonic Adventure in late July or August when...like Blockbuster or somebody else allowed you to rent it and try it out early with that special almost ready to be released in the US version of Sonic Adventure. Well, needless to say, my friends and I were blown away, and many of us bought them right away.

  10. I remember playing an import in a small games shop in the town I was living in at the time - they had Sega Rally 2 going on it. I remember just thinking that it looked so cool, far more realistic than Gran Turismo at the time. Although thought the controller was odd looking but strangely comfortable, and I loved the analog triggers.
