http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo_Banana Friend of mine is looking to get some of these but all we can find is overpriced Amazon listings. Apparently they were common in San Jose, CA but are no longer. Can anyone help out or point me in the right direction?
Are you sure the Amazon prices are that much more than they actually cost in Japan? http://www.amazon.com/Tokyo-Banana-Cake-Original-banana/dp/B00ENBAJXA 16 for $48 plus shipping. In Japan: http://item.rakuten.co.jp/selene-/swt-156/ 8 for 2200 yen plus shipping. They are a well-known souvenir so they probably jack the price up in Japan. And I think they are made with fresh ingredients so they don't last long.
Nope, I don't know. But I assumed that those members who live in Japan would be able to tell me. At 2200 yen for 8 that's $36 prior to shipping, still cheaper.
Personally I have no idea however my friend was tempted to buy them at the Amazon price. While temptation has yet to migrate to actualization it still says something.
They're pretty good. When I came back from Japan I got some for my Mother In Law because she likes banana flavored snacks too.
