Long story short - I managed to completely mess up my watch today. It involved a cricket ball.

Anyway I was in the market for a new watch when I stumbled on http://www.tokyoflash.com

(Apologies if this site is common knowledge but I had not seen it till today.)

I just though that some of these Japanese concept designs are awesome. I just got the barcode ss, pretty damn cheap all things considered and "unique" (+ free shipping). We shall see whether it is possible to actually use the thing as a clock but otherwise it can be an LED bangle for all I care.

Anyway some of these designs are well worth checking out, just to see how many different ways that designers have come up with to make it as hard as possible to actually use a watch to tell the time!

Style over content, all the way.

Very nice... and cheap! Just the kind of watch for me. The last watch I had, lasted about 1 month. THe one before that 2 weeks. I think the one before that was 2 months. As you can see, I've got shitty watch karma.

Very cool. Have been half looking for a watch for a while now, and may have found the perfect place to get one from.

If you're going to spend that much money on a watch, might as well buy some quality instead of such a gimmick.

Fair enough Giel, but the watch that I broke before I brought a tokyoflash one cost at least 5 times as much as the "gimmick", that was pure quality but could not stand up to a well thrown cricket ball! Personally I think the most expensive watches that TF carry (100 pounds) are damn cheap in comparison to other concept watches.

Also in reality you have very little use for a watch to tell the time with. You always have your mobile or your laptop clock etc, and you are surrounded by clocks everywhere you go in public. Thus I feel that I may as well have something fun and cool on my wrist instead of something useful. I brought one of those watches as a piece of jewelry first and a watch second.

As I said in my first post "style over content". When was a "gimmick" a bad thing?

A gimmick is not a bad thing an sich, but it is when you buy something with a purpose(in this case our purposes with a watch differ, seeing as I do use mine a lot and you see it more as a piece of jewelry) you should tend to avoid gimmicks. Not that I don't like them though, I just find them too expensive in comparison with their effectiveness.

Just though I would add that my watch arrived from them a couple of days ago, no problems at all. A friend of mine ordered two watches and they arrived without any bother. Basically I would use Tokyoflash again, they could not do anything better really.

My Watch. It was really hard to get a good pic as the camera kept catching reflections on either the strap or the LEDs. Anway it has an awesome strap and I love the LEDs. In short - really chuffed. Infact my friend and I went out with our new "pimping" watches to a club last thursday and you can see them a mile away. Worth every pound.

You didnt know about tokyo flash? man what a n00b!

Just j/k, yeah they have some cool watch (the equalizer one is the best) but honestly I still prefer use over look.

BTW, why are watches sooo stuck in the tech aspect? in the past watches were the techiest gadgets you could get but now they are plain obsolete.

Is not that they cant do anything: they could make one with an OLED screen, that would be pretty cool...

Most watch companies have seen a drastic drop in business since mobile phones have been around. A few months ago, my last watch got broken after 6 or 7 years of constant use and I haven't felt the need to replace it yet, because I've always got my mobile phone (or someone I'm with has). I'm still kind of half-heartedly looking for a replacement but I wouldn't want anything as over-the-top as those tokyoflash ones.

Yeah I have a market report about how the cellphone industry almost destroyed watchs sales.

What makes me furious is that watch companies intead of upgrading their lame-obsolete products went and sued the crap out of cellphone makers and carriers.

    Thats just lame...

A french carrier was sued because their advert told people to throw their watches away when they got a mobile. It wasnt exacly industry wide.

That's pathetic. If you can't compete, diversify/get out of the market: it's capitalism, you're a business, deal with it.

Cant agree more, that's what I'm been saying all the time.

If I was at the head of any watch company I would at least try to release some innovation instead of the same old shit they always sell.

Tokyo lfash is only an example of that, what about clocks with new functions? I remember when casio released the remote control watch it was crazy! everyone in my school wanted one.

They could release a clock with WiFi signal detection so you dont have to turn on your laptop or pull une of those detectors from your pocket:thumbsup:

But alas, is easier to call a lawyer...
