very good game, got about half way thought it so far and my only complaint is its too much shooting people and not enough puzzles (if any) but apart from that the game is alot of fun
Finished it on Monday. Excellent game & I reccomend it to everyone. Awesome story, graphics are beautiful and gameplay is top notch. Best & most enjoyable game I have played in a while. There is not as many puzzles as previous games, and they are easier but it works out well as it keeps the action flowing. They are also rebooting the movie!
i have gripes about Lara's figure differing from the traditional tomb raider too much, they've went more for realism than the traditional tomb raider style. im not a fan of uncharted.
Good game and serves well as a reboot, just hope future instalments have more TOMB RAIDING instead of just a handful of optional one puzzle rooms to solve. Clues in the title guys, Tomb Raider, not Survival Chick. Good length, good story, good gameplay, good game all round but is it Tomb Raider? Ahhh im not totally convinced yet.
My worry is they won't make her a tomb raider again at all, the habit in this series has been to find a mechanic that sells and stick with it which is what led to this second reboot effort. They made her a tomb raider with this game so i just hope they remember that's what this series is about for the next one, it wouldn't make sense for the next game to be a carbon copy of this one but it would be the easiest thing for the developers to do. The emphasis on survival in this story makes sense but it's not going to work a second time, not unless they reboot, again.
And that right there is what worries me :wink-new: I don't want this series to become another Resident Evil fiasco, pander to the people who weren't ever fans in the first place and forget about the many millions already there until it's too late.
I doubt there are millions of people who care about Tomb Raider. They probably went the way of Spice Girls fans a long time ago. Good thing they did pander to non-RE fans though, since that's how we got 4, the only good game in the series so far.
Yeah, I'm not really a fan of the new look either. Old Lara may have been sexualized to laughably absurd proportions, but that's part of what made her who she was. It was endearing in a way. Now she just looks boring, like the stereotypical product of a western developed game. Say what you will about Duke Nukem Forever, but at least Duke was the same as he's always been in that game. They didn't change him, they didn't tone down his ego, and they didn't go for realism. I haven't played the new Tomb Raider so I won't pass judgement on the game quality-wise, but from the footage I've seen it seems to be more like Uncharted than a Tomb Raider game, which is ironic considering Uncharted has been called "Dude Raider" for the longest. That's also how we got 5 and 6. The key is to keep what made the original games great while properly evolving with the times. 4 did that. 5 did not. 6 tried to, but failed miserably. At this point, Capcom would be smart to go back to their survival horror roots and pander to the original fans.
The old Lara character was a joke from the dismal mid-90s era of gaming, and to have her as a main character in 2013 would just scream "dated". The rape joke didn't really fit his character at all, especially considering you'd get punished for killing women other than the ones trapped in alien cocoons and begging for you to kill them in Duke 3D.
They didn't have to model her exactly like she was in the PS1 era, they could've kept the same look and modified it slightly. Considering how stereotypically gritty, "mature", and "realistic" new Lara looks, one could argue that new Lara is a joke from the modern era of gaming just as much as old Lara was a joke from the 90's era of gaming. But when comparing both "jokes" side by side... ...I'll take the one on the left any day.
I'm not really a big fan of either design, but the one on the left is better; then again, that's a much more realistic version than the stupid-looking Lara from the PS1 games anyway.
Exactly. They've already toned her down a bit from the PS1 days since Tomb Raider: Legend came out back in 2006. In my opinion, the new look is completely unnecessary.
Lara on the left is 41 year old and the Lara on the right is 21 years old. However latest Tomb Raider story takes before the Original Tomb Raider era. In this point of view, picture on the right is realistic though. Back to the topic.... From TR1 to TRU This is the latest Lara of looks, she bound to be age 43. Lara is already old at this point. Crystal Dynamics has changed the original Lara Croft story from by Core Design and they fuck it all up. Crystal Dynamics pretty much done the bad job on Tomb Raider Legend and Underworld which make Lara far more girly, slutty and too much emotional of caring in my opinion and most TR fan agreed aswell. However classic of Tomb Raider series on Playstation by Core Design were the best at it own days. Unfortunate I'm happen to be big fan of Tomb Raider Series and the Tomb Raider franchise was pretty much dead/fading since after Tomb Raider Chronicle. I played and complete Latest Tomb Raider and it utter shit and boring. Obvious similar style of Uncharted series ( Uncharted the best series I ever played in this generation) It nothing like or part of Tomb Raider at all. It has way too much action and killings, lack of atmosphere and puzzle, running, jumping in high heights. Tomb Raider 3 is my favorite game all of time, due to massive improvement gameplay and massive makeover from TR1 TR2 and took whole new level. Tomb Raider 4 on PS1 is no doubt that is the game only what Tomb is really meant to be. Core Design put so much effort. The best game in the series in my opinion, lots of tombs, puzzle, less combat, realistic story and very long gameplay time. I can go on more about this but it just take too long to write.
Being a big Tomb Raider fan I've been really looking forward to this and I just finished the game this evening, I quite enjoyed all the current gen TR's but I thought this reboot was absolutely brilliant! Firstly the game looks stunning, I loved the overall more mature feel to the game too, the action is fast paced and you never feel like your wondering around totally clueless and personally, I think I prefer the look of the new Lara. Dont get me wrong, I still love the original TR but I can still fire up the 'ol PS1 for that, but I'm really impressed and look forward to see what they do next with the franchise.
I want to get it, but I doubt I'd pay full price for it. I'll wait till it comes down to $20 like all other releases have in the past. I do like the new Lara too. I liked how she looked in Underworld too, I think she's waaay too wounded though lol
its worth paying full price for mate, really good game, one of the few at the moment that is worth buying
