Here's a PC beta of Tomb Raider dated 4th September 1996 recently discovered on an old demo disc (Games Machine 22). All the levels are present and playable with various differences, there's also some deleted enemies and items within the game files. I've taken just the Tomb Raider files to make a smaller download for anyone that's only interested in those but if you want the demo disc it came on you can find it on Archive.org

    Demo Disc - https://archive.org/details/cdrom-gamesmachinecd-volume-022

To start the game first mount the image using Daemon or similar then use DOSBox with the following command

Mount C F:/ (F being the drive you mounted the image to in Daemon, change to whatever your virtual drive letter is)
    C:
    TOMB.EXE

You can access a level select menu by running "TOMB.EXE lamer" to bypass some levels that are incomplete, and "TOMB.EXE hires" to increase the resolution of the game.

Here's a partial list of differences from DarkOverlord on Beta Archive

    *Sigh*

Got my hopes up as I was thought it was going to be a Sega Saturn September version.

Anyway thanks for posting this though.

Nothing new here. Just a Rolling demo ECTS 1996 was first shown in public press conference then publish in Magazine with disc. I already upload a video which showing the 3D map with using PDA from the inventory.

I've replaced the download link with one including a new patched EXE allowing you to play through all the levels as normal, or you can run 'TOMB.EXE lamer' to enable a level select menu. If you want to use the original EXE (which is coded to stop after Lost Valley) run 'TOMBORIG.EXE'.

Should be all you have to do, i don't use 7 personally but Daemon and DosBox are compatible with it. Daemon can be found HERE and DosBox HERE. You can always skip Daemon and just burn the image to a disc if you want and have a spare CD-R laying around.

Got it to work.. me being stupid.. I do have a few questions though.

    1. Is this the full beta? Or is there a part where you cannot go any further?
    2. Can you go full screen or even make it bigger?
    3. Can you use a gamepad instead of keyboard?

It's a full beta, although there are some levels where you can't finish (like St Francis Folly, the Neptune room is bugged), there's a level select to bypass this though that you can access by running "TOMB.EXE lamer"

You can run "TOMB.EXE hires" to increase the quality and resolution, although not by much, then press ALT+ENTER together to make it fullscreen. You can combine the two commands with "TOMB.EXE lamer hires" too.

I think you can, but it's fiddly. It would be easier using a front-end for DosBox, i hear D-Fend Reloaded is a good one with controller support but i've never used one so can't help there.

Thank you!!!!!! It's a bit weird how running the tomb.exe hires makes it better quality?

Also.. the fact I can load the first 3 levels, is that supposed to be like that?
