No fricking way. I don't think much work was ever done on Jaguar or the 32x for that matter(I read somewhere about that too). If any...
The Jaguar logo has been photoshopped in, the box originally read 'Multiple Platforms' (according to unseen64):
^Thanks, I thought i'd seen it before. I also noticed the jaguar was looking abit funny. It looks like Sega Saturn, but i edited my last post
I just couldn't imagine this on Jag or Jag CD. Makes me think they tried to develop it there but canned it due to the system being so underpowered. But yeah, the logo is definitely 'shopped in, way out of place in all counts. Even I could do a better job making that look legit.
well i did know they did developed TR for Jaguar version around 13% but not sure how i heard it from and it goes same for 32x and 3DO too. I dont believe its nothing to do with underpowered of the system though. I dont really know why would someone Photoshopped the magazines. Also TR2 alpha stage was developed for Sega Saturn too but the floppy disc was decaying (rotting away) some years ago. Floppy drive expansion to sega saturn.
Speaking of Saturn and Tomb Raider: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c47MsX0e9a0 This is not from a beta but a Saturn exclusive bug
This bug on sega saturn has been around more than 13 years on public forums, not sure why suddenly we need to see this again. even though Greatest TR is a real pro when searching bugs and glitches and this is where we first saw it. "Interesting bug, the Sega Saturn version was compiled around a month before the PSX version. They had a month to change the controls, fix bugs in the PSX version. I do however have a copy compiled the same date as the Sega Saturn final and the bug isn't there.. strange indeed." @Decapicitated, that correct what you said, but there more According what Greatest TR (mcstyle24) said that Final version of TR on Sega saturn is still in beta progress which never made to final version for sega saturn. Here the quote for Greatest TR "Well this is a Tomb Raider beta gameplay for Sega saturn version and it big different to final version, i recored this 14 years ago when i was a kid. I had more video clip coming on 24th September then you will understand the difference is. Retail Tomb Raider Sega Saturn version is still beta version because it was rush to release to date while PSX was more completed version. Tomb Raider beta 30% Tomb Raider UK version Sega Saturn 75% Tomb Raider USA version Sega Saturn 90%" also Greatest TR mention that in TR beta version, you have pit ground under the bridge in cave level at level 1, final version on PS1 was removed but Tomb Raider USA version Sega Saturn (retail version) is still there. even Tomb Raider UK version Sega Saturn is the worst out them all. There plenty more "Unseen" that you don't see in final version on PSX. Unfortunately, Greatest TR supposed to make another video on 24th Sept for this comparison between Tomb Raider beta 30% Tomb Raider UK version Sega Saturn 75% (promo version) Tomb Raider USA version Sega Saturn 90% (promo version) but it din't happen @Decapicitated I will ask the CORE ex-employee if TR2 was originally planned for the Sega Saturn. Right now, there's not been much news this way. Please do that, again he what Greatest TR said, "Yes most Tomb Raider 1 beta are on Sega saturn because Tomb Raider was originally exclusive to Sega saturn console at the time, So it means in future of newer Tomb Raiders series were only ment to be on Saturn version rather than PS1 or PC due to SEGA paid contract to Core Design but of course Sega saturn became ill fated, so instead it went multipaltform rather than single exclusive console. So that why we don't have TR2,3,4 or 5. Even saturn more powerfull than PS1. July and August are seperate beta, Even though there are Tomb Raider 2 extremely early alpha stage on Sega saturn which is exist. Very very hard to find and mabey likely not to work anymore. Tomb Raider 2 alpha stage is playable and have to be played from Floppy disc with floppy disc drive which is extended (connect) Sega saturn console." Also he told me, TR2 alpha is no longer working anymore, Floppy disc are piece of shit which dont last long, he said that he doent believe someone back it up before it decayed. Here what it might have came from as the floppy disc and someone said to me that the Gold disc hanging from notice board is the exact TR1 beta disc which Greatest TR used to have back then. It haven't confirmed by him yet. http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=2305&stc=1&d=1326126169 This is another example what TR2 alpha may look like in floopy disc. http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=2306&stc=1&d=1326126887 I hope this clears up abit, but still it would be nice to know more.
Unless there is actual proof of a Saturn build I dont think it ever came to actual development. Maybe they did some engine tweaks to at least get some half-decent lighting out of the Saturn and then were offered an exclusive deal from SONY. At this point it seemed pretty obvious to them that the Saturn was seriously underpowered and optimisations would be too expensive to justify any delay of the game for strong going platforms. Actually I dont think Tomb Raider 2 Sega Saturn would be too nice. I think it would basically run like a slug frames-wise, most probably lack the lighting effects and still resort to that ultra nasty LOD-trickery.
Well sorry, my fault. It was me who brought up this old discussion topics about TR2 Alpha from the dead. Greatest TR was not the first person knows or first heard about TR2 Alpha on the floopy disc. It going back some time when we first read about TR2 Alpha which runs on floopy disc at the time. It all started by person (forgot his name) who create the thread that he has a picture with floopy disc and it got handwriting on it and it written in " TR2 Alpha WIP" and it got official Sega saturn print stamp on it ( looking very legit to me). Background in the picture seems like somewhere in developent location room for what i can say. Like i said , that how Greatest TR know in the first place, like i know too. I guess he took it way too seriously want to know more about fact of TR2 Alpha on floopy disc because it a new method and he got hope up for it. He done alot PM to that guy for quite some time, and one time Greatest TR was pissed off founding out that TR2 alpha has been decayed or mabey broken and owner claims that he never got chnce to back it up, and thats it ....he never boasted about it after that. Topic of that was short lived. Greatest TR never made up story about TR2 Alpha on floopy disc, he simply stick to that statement from what he saw. That all. It me to bring that old topic again to see if you guys known anything about it. Quite frankly, there were some early alpha saturn games runs loopy disc too, not just TR2 alpha. Again i know most Sega saturn betas game that run on CD-R, which goes same for floopy disc too. So you got 2 methods ways of doing it. In my point of view of reason why TR2 Alpha is on floopy disc is because it is cheaper than CD-R at the time. I guess TR2 alpha only takes up less than 2MB i would say. So floppy disc can only hold 2.44MB. So why would you waste CD-R that can hold 800MB ? and at the time CD-R still quite new and it still expensive to use. Again look at TR1 WIP on PC, that was run on floppy disc too. Here look at this, this retail vesrion. Not dev kit as i could find. http://segaretro.org/Saturn_Floppy_Drive http://www.segagagadomain.com/hardware-sat/fdd.htm Floppy does decayed in some time, they don't last long as you might think. Once Floppy disc is reading, it wears down the sector of data on the disk. Trust me they are picec of shit. We used those to save our homework back in 1980's in school time and some of our homework is lost caus e of that. That just way it was back then. I think Greatest TR made mistake about Tomb raider being exclusive to Sega saturn, somewhere in his wirting. What he ment is that TR was release to Sega saturn 3 months eariler than PC and PS1. So that was exclusive deal between Core design and Sega headquarters. Greatest TR, if you read this ? sorry if i put you in bad postition about discussing of TR2 alpha on floppy disc:/
The very early version with lara braid and sunglasses, Very strong point it was on floppy disc at the time and however i defiantly know that TR1 WIP ECT 96 was on floppy disc too and someone mention in comment box on youtube before. Im would be interested what he had to say, EX core dev's
A bit gutted by founding out that TR1 WIP ECT 96 is originally not on floppy disc in the place, But i very sure i have seen it in my own eyes seeing TR1 WIP ECT 96 was on floppy disc. Mabey only few of them. Again this is was very long time ago to remember any of this. Here the video from youtube, im very sure that you have already seen this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUTsz_lsotc Also i highlighted the quote for you, "It was found on an old CD from ECTS 96 I had lying around. A CD given to the press during the event, can't remember how I got hold of it though as I never went the event." You are right about mention that came on CD disc. Again Floppy disc is also know as Diskette too it is 2,1 mb zipped, while the one here came on a single diskette! I think it was less than a single megabyte. The original Tomb raider beta demo could fit on a diskette. I remember this DOS demo. Maybe it's just the same, or was the playable version later/different? Yes im very sure that very early version of Braid and sunglasses was on floppy disc. I put my money on that. I heard about that may exist on Sega saturn too cause i saw some pictures versy long time but i din't know that on PS1 too. I don't think i seen that magzines at all. EDIT I don't know, maybe TR1 WIP ECT 96 came both on format, probably came on CD disc mostly. Again i just found out just now on Greatest TR video that he has TR1 WIP ECT 96 on CD disc too and plus he went to ECT 96 event years ago. I guess it gives clears evidence now it was mostly on CD disc. So you are right after all.
Well, all TR1 Beta and alpha has been almost discovered but few more info that we may never know. TR1 WIP 1995 is what everyone wants, some rare TR3 alpha and betas like you posted on different thread with full of pictures. Im sure someone must had that. It wasn't that hard to get from 12 years ago.
Wow u guys STILL have no idea who currently have the TR1 WIP 95 ? LOL !!! He walked right under ur feet this time for 16 years. It's Almito la vito who has it all along.
^ Anything more you can tell us about that? Going by the doors being there it's a later beta. Also, Tomb Raider really was planned for release on Atari Jaguar CD, or if it is a rumor it's a very old one, since Tomb raider appears on this Jaguar release list from 1995: http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.video.atari/browse_thread/thread/6e9e6b5707642f77/812cbd7044cf81c7
Sure is fun to see all of these types of beta floating around. Out of curiosity I made a post some time ago about the version of Tomb Raider Anniversary that Core Designs was working on. I'll see if I can dig it up and edit my post but I was wondering if any news of that beta has surfaced. Also Decapicitated you mentioned you were playing the Tomb Raider Anniversary review version. I vaguely remember this version but this was pretty much the retail version correct? I believe the boot up screen looked like the Tomb Raider Legends boot up screen and was missing the nVidia logo is that correct or was there more? Edit: Here is the thread I spoke of in my post and wow Decapicitated answers my question already. Shame that it seems to be lost for good now. http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25748
