Are there any leaked betas or very early pictures of the original tomb raider? Anyone know of anything leaked? Thanks
i've seen pictures but anybody know if there was a leaked build of when lara was a man? (I remember them saying they changed it to lara because it was comming off as an indiana jones rip off).
Yeah pretty much anything thats different from the final game, levels, models.... Any leaked betas or pictures?
I don't think the Lara-as-a-man ever made it into any game code, beta or otherwise. My understanding was that she was changed to her present state during the character design phase before any coding work was done in any capacity.
I've seen old concept sketches (old 3dfx ad) of Lara, so my guess is that the game was changed before coding began.
No I believe I seen screen shots of it all in 3d in action. I do believe they prototyped the idea quite a bit before making the change to lara.
Hello there... Long time reader, relatively new poster. I just realized I have a CD-R of a beta Tomb Raider for PS1 picked up from a friend (during the time when PS1 mod-chips were just popping out of the woodwork). I can't recall exactly the differences. I was a kid when I last played it, so my memory's not too clear, but something along the lines of less shading/poly count or something and different music sounds about right. I know it was different from the retail, that's for sure. I'll try to dig it up if I can find it. Anything you're looking for so I can compare? Come to think of it, I have a couple of other 'betas' of Twisted Metal 2 and Rage Racer. Wow, you just brought up some great memories Oooh... just remembered that the health bar was different from the retail. Now I need to find a PS to play it.
Would love to hear more about this if you can remember many of the differences between it and the final, or directly compare them if you'r willing (and still have the disc/s handy).
I have a Japanese beta of Tomb Raider for the Saturn which has different energy bars, sound effect and screens. Game seems the same I think. Also have the PAL and Japanese full versions for Saturn so I may compare them one day. Yakumo
I wrote a little FAQ comparing the differences when I was younger. I can find it and send it to you. Also, found Cool Boarders, Pandemonium, Suikoden and a Ranma title. They're HK discs, but I recall that each had obvious differences (lack of endings, different screens. etc.) when compared to retail. Scans? Lucky git! I'd be interested to hear of the differences, as this seems remarkably similar to what I have for PS. Haven't you posted about it before? Time for a search
