Was Tomba! 3 / Tombi! 3 realy in development or franchise died after second game?

I know that on web you can write whatever you want, but I am curious about two posts.

In 2004. someone on Lost Levels wrote this:

The Tomba!/Tombi! series by Whoopee-Camp for the Playstation had to have been one of my favorites during the prime days of the PSX. Back during 2001 I checked the website and saw an ad promoting a new version for the PS2.

Recently when I tried to check back on them to see if they had canned the game or were still working on it; I saw that there was no website anymore. Archive.org's last entry for http://www.whoopeecamp.co.jp is August 8th, 2003. My guess, according to the titlepage, is that they merged with Deepspace which as you can see also doesn't exist anymore. They seem to have made a lot of horror/thriller games. Cutesy adventure to horror/thriller... Hrmm.

Well anyway, the information on Tomba! 3 disappeared between May 16th and September 24th of 2001. That tells me that they really didn't get much developed before whiping it completely off their page. Kind of sad, actually. I would have definitely purchased it.

And then someone mention: Tomba was definitely a odd game with a lot of charm and fun. I remember reading a tiny mention of tomba 3 (in psm i think) but didnt see or hear anything else. Sucks that they didnt finish making it.

Are this real memories or false?

    EDIT:

Third game maybe was real, just found placeholder for third Whoopee Camp game for PlayStation 2!

    Quick google translate:

And ... Currently, PS2 video game software development! ! The constantly updated information, will be announced. Please stay tuned! ! Released 2001 Release Date Platform PlayStation 2 Genre? ? ? Price? ? ? You experience the child in 2001, and excitement to shock innovative game, unprecedented in the high quality that fully demonstrate the performance of the PS2

In February 2001. game was listed, and it disappeared around May or June same year.

In 2000. this product placement was also listed, but I dont think that it is page for Extermination. It was listed separated on main page.

And in 2011. someone claim this:

    I have met Whoopee Camp's ex-president, our discussion of Tomba!/Tombi! 3

Now yes, I did manage to meet Tokuro Fujiwara at a PlatinumGames (the company he currently works for) gaming conference, around 2 years ago, upon the release of the "Madworld" for Wii. And I may have some bad news. Mr. Fujiwara stated that Whoopee Camp had only released a prototype demo of Tomba 3 for Whoopee Camp employees to test, but both the original and the copy had been done away with by the time Whoopee Camp was disbanded. Mr. Fujiwara also stated that the complete version of this game was never released. When I had asked if they were or would even consider bringing the Tomba series back on track to Platinum Games, he said that there were no plans of making a new Tomba game in the near or far future. Sorry guys. I guess he's done with Tomba :(

Tomba is (was?) badass, it is too bad that supposedly they don't have any plans at all for new games. Unlikely that anything about tomba 3 would surface but here's hoping for the best.

Honestly, a new tomba would be perfect for a PSN release.

I would love to see another Tomba! Unfortunately the first two didn't sell a whole ton, so that's probably why there's no interest in renewing the IP. Even something for a handheld would be cool, but it could be a major gamble for whoever supports it.

I'd say hope for someone to put the game on Kickstarter, but there'd probably barely be the interest in it for even that to succeed.

Another Tomba! game would have been very welcomed by fans indeed. It's sad to hear that there doesn't seem to be any interest in refreshing the IP, but not exactly surprising.
