Don't usually like to post some of my own stuff but, I've put together a site featuring a ton of alpha/beta info. I've found 4 (first hand accounts) from the SpaceWorld 1997 demo of Pocket Monsters 2 and a bunch of other info (levels of those Pokémon, stats, etc) from that demo as well. I pretty much tried to document it's development from when it was announced to when it was delayed in March of 1998 (it's original release time). http://web.me.com/celebi23/Spaceworld_97_Pokemon/Main.html
hmmmm! interesting stuff indeed! I didnt know there existed beta gold starters O_O! Have you found any proto cardridges or so, or only the related info?
Someone from the lostlevels.org forums has a Gameboy magazine from January of 1998 that has a 5 page preview of Pocket Monsters 2 (has even more early screenshots than my site has) . They're going to scan it in a few days hopefully & then I'll host it on my site
I have never heard of any prototype Pokémon carts ever being found, but the final games themselves have a ton of unused data. Scripts, text, trainers, maps, and minigames still exist in the ROM even though they aren’t accessible. Much of the dialogue from the cell phone features from Pokémon Crystal also was translated, even though the English version never made use of them.
so, got those scans from that Japanese Gameboy magazine http://web.me.com/celebi23/Spaceworld_97_Pokemon/Japanese_Gameboy_Magazine_Article.html Wish I knew someone that could translate it though (Thanks to “I am Christina Aguilera” from Lost Levels.org forums)
Holy shit, I've never seen those images of the minigames before. I originally thought that those screenshots were mockups, guess I was wrong.
I used to have that magazine in English or at least an English version of that review for some reason.
very interesting! I think it's quite rare to get Pokémon Beta stuff. In this early stadium, it really looked like a sequel to Blue/Red/Yellow (Green). But the Gold/Silver/Crystal versions we know are quite different (also the graphics) to the originals. So I think it's better that they didn't go with "Pokémon 2".
