Right, bear with the novice/n00b question.

I took delivery of my TOOL yesterday (T10000H) and aside from having a Power lead, what else do i need to connect it up properly. Its sat on the same desk as my regular PC and i only have room for one monitor etc...

Go on then , what else do i need and how should i connect it all up? can i use a KVM switch and keep the same Keyboard/Monitor combo?

Also, what do i need to have the switches set too on the front (behind the little black door) and how do i get started (new to linux also!)

    Yours..

    A confused TOOL owner.

First make sure you found the hidden VGA/keyboard/mouse connections in the back they are behind a metal plate.
Also connect it to your local network and TV with a regular playstation AV cable.
When you have it connected to both the hidden VGA, keyboard connected and TV connected boot the thing up, you will see linux boot on your monitor and eventually a status screen with an IP adres on your tv.
This is the IP adres you can use to connect to the webinterface.
(to change the root password and IP or to use DHCP check the Tool Basics thread) I have put almost all information in that thread so no need to rewrite everything :) if you run in to any kind of problems, describe the specific problem and i'll help out.

excellent, i was mainly concerned with connecting it all up.

Im guessing that it uses a Shared PS/2 port for the mouse and keyboard together?

Nope you have got 2 seperate ports (well mine does, im not sure on the P233MMX card) but on the other hand as long as you dont install the a linux gui the mouse port is useless anyway.

Single PS/2 port on the P266MMX PCI I'm afraid, but as stated you'll not currently need it.

Note* Some of these machines are NOT showing Network Information on the screens. It only comes up with the TOOL logo & cube image. The rest is sometimes blank. OE & I both have this on our Dirty Dozen units. The one I purchased previously does however show the information, so I know what you are talking about.

My dirty dozen units both display the network information, the one my friend got didnt, seems to be a mixed bag.

Yeah, the DD includes yours & mine (and OE's plus Drussian's et al) - no reference to their condition, other than the layer of dust, but because Matt seemed to originally have roughly 12 for sale....

Ah! Okay, thanks for letting me know!

Some kind of additional "Get your PS2 Tool running" guide appears to be in order. I don't mind compiling it, however I suspect UJ, Port187 and other more software orientated / Linux based people might have to walk me through it (and contribute huge amounts!)

The sooner the better as I am only off college for a short time!

From a novice TOOL owners point of view a 'New Users Guide' would be really handy!

Oh and i also have a 'set' of the green users/workings manuals for the TOOL, does anyone know how many books makes this set and a couple of mine are still cellophane sealed. Should i consider opening them or shoud i leave them sealed for future generations??? The sealed ones arnt mint at all. but they are all in pretty good condition.
