I decided to give extracting contents such as audio and video/images from PSX images a try.

Is there any good utilities for finding TMD/TIM/TOD/STR/XA/etc. files that may be hidden in a Giant Headerless Archive, such as the Silent Hill's SILENT and HILL files.

Also, i have a couple XA files I found on a different disk but PSXMC nor PSMplay can play the music. XAEX is in Japanese. XAPlay is also in Japanese. I even tried viewing STR files from a different game and nothing wants to play that either. PSXMC just complains about having no plugins to view anything. I even tried using FFPlay and all I get back is gargled noise.

EDIT: I found a program called Tim Viewer, it is successfully extracting and showing me the images used in Silent Hill.

What am I doing wrong, and what should I be using?

There are some tools for viewing image/model files from Resident Evil games, I can't remember the name of the tools. Have a browse of Resident Evil 1 2 3 forums (google it), you might find some tools of use there. Then again you might not, worth a look though.
