I can't decide on #10 right now it's intellevision but I don't think even that is worthy. Also I can't really decide on the Placement for the Saturn and the Dreamcast. For the most part it's my opinion altered to try to fit those that might read it but I just can't decide. http://ssg2txrr.bravehost.com/features/top10greatestconsoles.html Also the 2 rules are: No Current Gen Consoles No Handhelds
I'd say you've got a pretty good ranking (although personally I would have put Snes in front of PS2, but that's just my opinion.) Saturn and dreamcast are placed well. Instead of intellivision I'd put 2600, just had a bigger impact on history.
Right now I have a pretty big interest in ranking Sometime I plan to do a complete weighted system rank based on selection and rough quality of titles, but for now here's my guessed rough rank (biased by the console's impact on me and quality/selection from my point of view): Code: NES SNES GEN PSX SAT PCE PS2 DC XBX N64 -------- GC SMS 3DO A26 JAG IMO if handhelds don't count, arcade (NeoGeo) shouldn't either. Personally I think handhelds should count as they're often very important consoles. I'm also not sure if NES, SNES and GEN deserve their places on my list, that remains to be seen once I do my calculated rank.
Yeah pretty much before I went by that rule it was around there but then I thought the Wii fan boys will ask well where's the Wii....and we all know my currant opinion on the Wii. as far as the 2600 goes, I just find it impossible to have any fun with it. I don't even think any pre NES console should be on the list based purely on the fact I can't have fun with them. The Mastersystem was a fine system but I can't rank it there's too much sega already and I think the Gamecube and N64 are too limited. So.....yeah scratching my head here.
Hmm the Playstation 2 is still er current gen, mainly as it's still selling games by the bucketload (esp in Japan...) and it's still available unlike say the Gamecube and Xbox... As for Magnavox Odyssey, it's very simple to build a video amp to get it to work on composite video. For me I would list them 10 XBOX 9 DC 8 A26 7 MK3/MS 6 SFC (SNES, what are we american?) 5 PSX 4 SAT 3 PCE 2 MD (Gen my arse) 1 FC (nes, what gonads)
yeah I'm leaning toward the 2600 now my self. the frickin prototype for Zelda was on it. Unless the MSX can be considered a console but if Japanese computers count as consoles then the list really changes. IF the PC counts....... BLARG Why would the Mark III/Master System rank higher than the Dreamcast? It was a fantastic system and I own quite a few games for mine but I don't see where it's a better system than the Dreamcast. Game tended to look better than the NES but were SLOOOOOOOOOOW
the decisive factor in compiling a list is relative to the fun-factor and even more, nostalgia. Systems that we grew up with and remember tend to have a pretty image in our mind. A true objective test (as objective as opinion can be really) would be to give all consoles to someone who has never played games before and ask them to decide an order of things. I m pretty certain that older systems wouldn't appeal to such a reasonable person, since the more systems have evolved, the more accessible they have become in both accessories and games/language/technique.
Ok using your input and the input of another forum I redid the list and caved and put the 2600 at 10 and added an honorable mentions.
I would have put... 1) PlayStation 1 (I think that was the best time to play games, as everything was new) but that's just me. =) Also I got to say, I think Sega Genesis is a way better name then Mega Drive. It looked cooler in that font too.
Yeah, I know PS2 can do it's games, but me personally, I would do PS1 first. Once again, this is my own opinion, but when I got PSX in 5th grade, I was like holy shit to the sheer amount of mega hit games. I guess a lot of them aren't as good now, but those were good times. RPG's were actually good back then too.
