A friend of mine ask me if I want to trade his kiosk with my PS3 retail. Could be good deal? What the difference between?
It depends if you will instantly do a chargeback before resolving any issues with the trader which might occur =/ IIRC the firmware is different meanining it doesn't play retail games just the promo demo discs and you need to enter a password each time you use it, though I could be wrong and if so someone will correct me. I'd go for it though if it had the TV, disc, password and display stand though.
Actually now with the newer hacks you can convert a kiosk system to a retail system. So unless you really want a kiosk system, just tell them to go look on one of the PS3 hacking sites. Not to mention you didn't say hard drive size of either system which makes it slightly higher to judge since 40GB Kiosk systems are like $200 on ebay last I checked.
Yeh, you use the downgrade thing and install retail on it, I would assume they are not backwards compatible... right? or the first one were?
Kiosk + 100 bucks in cash (at least!) would be a good deal for a retail. 1:1 trade, I'd say dont do it, buy a retail from the store instead.
The Kiosk systems need a password entered in, but once this is done you can use it as normal system mostly (else it will act as a kiosk system and you have to do this everytime you want to do so), as long as you do not plan to do anything online. They will run anything you throw at it and you can play movies and listen to music. The main function of the Kiosk system is to stop people from messing around with the settings in the menus and to prohibit things like online (much the same wasy the Kiosk boxes do for the Xbox 360). Personally I would happily swap a retail system for a kiosk.
I would say do it I would say do it, as I think Kiosk systems are cool, but, like Hellcat said I would say that your ps3 is probably worth about $100 more, so, if you do it get the kiosk and $100. Just my opinion, npt
