I wonder how ambarassing it must be to say to your friend "I'm going to Hard Offs". Unless they lived in Japan, they'd think your sick. Heh :)

nope - it all had to go that day - i had a van full of games (about 14 moving boxings full of console/handheld/pcbs/mvs/LD etc)

The Lazer disk sell of at Liberty was funnier - took in about 3 boxes and the guy said "oh wow, there's some in here that are pretty rare" - QUIDS IN i thought "come back in an hour!"

so we did - and he went through the list. 5 yen, 4 yen, 5 yen, 1 yen 1 yen...

grand total of 49 yen :/ he didn't want the other junk but we just left them. lol.

It wasn't worth losing my nuts if i turned up back at home with junk i'd promised to get rid of but had left to the last minute.

We had this discussion at gamengai. I still find it shocking how much money was put into LD collection, only to have them worth mere sheckles now.

I don't think there are any in central Tokyo. Best to bite the bullet and pay sen yen. The closest decent Hard-Off I know of to you is near Musashi Urawa Station... but it's still like a 15 minute walk from there on top of the 20-30 minute train ride for you.

Well there are quite a lot (over 20) in Tokyo, although Tokyo is a metropolis (prefecture to everyone else) and not just a City... even in the 23 special wards that effectively make up Tokyo City there are 3 (Nerima, Itabashi and Adachi)...

Although there are none near the Yamanote line which is what most gaijin think Tokyo is :110:

There aren't a lot of normal Hard Off shops in Tokyo, especially not in places like akiba.

After the VHS/LD and (in the beginning) the DVD collection of movies which i spend a fortune on, including lots of doubles on other media as I had no choice with favourites from which I think it would be fair to say I bought the rights to own this movie the first time around and would just have to pay for the loose medium when a new one cames out, but life's a bitch right :)

Anyway to make a long story short I am never in my life (with strange exceptions there) buy another movie on whatever medium! i'm fine watching them on tv now and not keeping/buying a copy just for the principal of it.

I am also never selling them back to the shops that robbed me in the first place, I would rather give them to somebody/bin it or keep it until I die! even if we are talking about new stuff it's always much better to ask around with friends/place an ad in a newspaper/online/forum/ebay etc or do whatever it takes to prevent you going back to those damn ripoff shops. :rambo:

As per before... none in Tokyo. I don't even think people in Tachikawa or Hachiouji consider it Tokyo... much less city dwellers.

The sad thing is, I think DCharlie had already spent more money on petrol than the shops would buy or sell the LDs for.

when i have to get rid off some stuff, i usually sell it to oversea (swiss friends etc.) for some good bundle prices.

I shoot a big photo of the whole bunch and throw it into some local forums. when nuff buyers are gathered together, i send the whole bunch to one of 'em, and he will spread it out to the others. saves lot postage and even more important, a lot of my valuable time.

You said 'none in Tokyo' not 'None in central Tokyo city going on the historical definition of Tokyo before the second world war.' :p All those three are in the 23 special wards that make up Tokyo City and all have 03 dialing codes (as opposed to the other 17 or so that are in the Tokyo metropolis/prefecture and have 042 dialing codes). They may be in the suburbs but they are still part of Tokyo City. :110:

The point of my joke was that "Tokyo" is subjective, regardless of what it's name is. My personal one is about a 5 station radius, with a small sliver that makes it to Akihabara on occasion.
