Within Rez and it's betas there are editors and functions that can save files to the VMU, such as custom enemy patterns and debug settings. What methods exist to transfer these files from the VMU to the PC? I know there was a memory card that had a usb interface, but surely there would have been official methods for this too? I know Rez also tries to save ninja model files with a command in the final, but these don't end up on the VMU... I'm not sure where it tries to save those files. Any info would be appreciated.
Pretty much any homebrew enabling tool allows you to dump VMU files or image. The sd-card cable is pretty nice for this actually. DreamShell has a tool to dump saves to sd-card IIRC. I dumped my save files years ago using the printer port interface so my precious saves are alive forever! If it's saving something, but no in the VMU, then it could be in the flash memory. But it'd have to be quite small to fit there without screwing up everything.
Hm, I'd have thought there'd be something in the sdk for it though, like the vmu utility though I think I lack a cable to use that, or I just don't know how to use it properly. I'll investigate that some more later. Was going to invest in sd-card stuffs soon enough anyway, might also look for that vmu with the USB interface again. I know Rez allocates different sections of the ram into stacks or something though the final no longer prints the stack parameters to the console menu. Seems odd it has references to functions like "save PC file" but no real way of actually doing so with the basic dev unit setup...
So you mean using a katana you wanna fetch vmu files? I don't know about it, but I guess it's quite doable. Doesn't the VMU is addressed as if in the ram anyway? So you could simply dump a vmu raw then use VMU explorer (by speud I think) to read the actual data in it.
Have you looked at \Katana11b\Doc\PDFs\VMU.pdf ? Search for "Memory Card Utility", a program to be loaded on the devkit to be able to transfer from & to a VMU via serial cable between pc & devkit. Not without transferring it first via Maple commands to the devkit RAM I'm afraid... (which implies using a program to be loaded on the devkit first)
Yeah, that utility loads on my unit but I need the serial cable... Guess that's the easiest method? I'll have to find the cable.
