With me waiting for the live action Transformers movie (Probably turn out crap) I thought I'd post something for you to see. So off to YouTube I went to open an account. I've uploaded a clip that shows both the original English opening and the Japanese version. The Japanese one is much longer with a completely different sound track. Check it out.

I love the English sections in the Japanese song. Pure classic no meaning japlish.

    "You can fight......Transformer"

    "We hope the only world"

What on earth does "We hope the only world" mean?

Actually the first season of Transformers in Japanese has a pretty catchy tune. Once the Japanese only shows came along they had bloody awful theme tunes sort of like those old Keimen rider shows. You know, crooning old farts singing in that typical Japanese style.

I had quite a few western shows dubbed in to Japanese with some pretty funny changes. I'll see if I can find the DVD they were on.

    Wow! Excellent.

I didn't even remember, but this definitely was on Mexican TV in the 80s, and it had a Spanish version of the English song. It seems to be etched into my mind, as I had no recollection of it, but it seemed extremely familiar.

    Identical to the English version.

Transformers and Robotech, we got the English version, but in the 80s and 90s ,generally, everything else came from the Japanese originals - Minky Momo, Sandy Belle, Umi no Toriton (that was in the seventies, though), and Ranma all had Japanese intros and endings (though some songs were dubbed in Spanish eventually), for example.

Now that Anime is all popular, we get translations of the americanised versions, which probably really sucks for Japanese-Spanish translators, jobwise.

But, back on topic, there's a Spanish version of that English song, for sure.

AFAIK, Yamato/Starblazers is the only anime of the 70's/80's that had the song translated, keeping the melody intact. Mach Go Go Go/Speed Racer also did, but that's much older.

I can say the same about Saint Seiya in the Spanish-Speaking market. Somebody thought that a crappy band from Spain, composing a dumb song would be better than the 80's hair-metal style Japanese intros.

Hell, there are people that hadn't heard those intros EVER Until recently.

For the record, the Spanish song REALLY sucks but we all know it, even those who, like myself, were never really Saint Seiya fans.

you know what craked me up was that speed racer had some parts of the opening cut. Plus I met the guy who was responsible for translating the show and said that he had to censor it quite a bit and often put in extra lines of dialouge to say a random character didnt die. Its funny cause orginally the m on speed(minfune) helmet everone though stood for his car when it actually stood for his name.
