Preferably with an answer from some of our nihonjin members. The PC-Engine and Sega Saturn were successful in Japan. *I know... stupid question, but you know... some people...*
 I do apologize for this retarded thread. But when someone doesn't know something as basic as THAT, then I often feel I need it to be documented here, since I consider this the most knowledgeable and least fanboyish forum on the net. I guess my next question could be: Did Capcom manufacture the 4MB cart? *Since this is another argument me and said individual once had.*
The Saturn did very well in Japan, outselling the N64. The PS did better then both by a long shot though. Although the Saturn only had a single game that sold over 1,000,000 copies. With the PS and N64 having quite a few. It's hard to get nailed down figures for the PC Engine, but it was the 2nd best selling machine in Japan after the Famicom with the Megadrive trailing in a sad third. Chip Chan Kick is a PC-FX game, and probably the only reason to own a PC-FX. Although no one seems to mention the mirad of panty shots of the quite obvious under 8 year old heroes... Although I wouldn't recommend searching for the book that has game sketches in it...
Both Saturn and PCEngine got a nice run on japan, specially when you compare that with their performance in other markets... What? for what I know the MD wasnt successful at all in japan, how come is the 3rd best selling console in history?h:
The point of my question was to draw attention to the popularity in misnaming the game. Even pcenginefx.com has it written incorrectly...and that's supposed to be the rock solid source for the system (in English). That's Nintendo's style though. Even the GC had a bunch of 1 million sellers, no?
I meant at the time between '88 and '90, it was the 4th best selling console when the Super Famicom came out...
There is a reason for this... probably not the real reason and I probably know far too much about this. Chip is the name of the female character with the bow and the pink cat tail. Chap is the name of the girl with the mouse like ears, Loop (as it says on her apron) is the girl with the bunny ears. As way of proof here is a picture from the artist websites. Chip is the mascot for Cybertech and the Doujinshi Circle Akkan Bi (right click and get properties and it says ChipChapLoop.GIF). Although the game clearly says 'Chippu Chan Kiikku' The Gamecube had er 1 game that sold over 1m in Japan and that was Super Smash Bros Melee. The machine was a total black hole for Nintendo. The N64 by comparison had at least a dozen. With Mario Kart 64 leading the way, followed by Super Smash Bros, Super Mario 64 even Pokemon Stadium sold over 1m.
Didn't know that. I own it, and am going to fire it up soon. It's been a long time coming. Didn't know that. I don't follow sales charts. I know what I like, and it's usually the game that sells really poorly.
Chip Chap Kick is my favorite PC-FX game. Even beating out Super God Trooper Zeroigar (which, incidentally, I LOVE, probably one of few though...).
What was the correct name? I thought you said it WAS Chip-chap Kick. I USED to call it Chip Chan Kick.
I was playing the "T/F game". My statement was false. It is Chip-chan kick... chan being honorific, as Calpis pointed out.
See, I didn't even know people called it Chip Chap Kick. So yeah, I completely didn't catch that. Hey! Did you guys know that the only reason the Saturn and PC-Engine did so well in Japan was because people in the US were importing them? I guess they didn't do as well in the US because everyone had Japanese consoles. *Thats seriously what this guy is telling me now...*
