Hi Guys, I´m trying to dump my Partner N64 floppies with winimage but i get messages like the following one A way to get rid of those messages ? Or to fix the errors once and for all ? I can use DD on my MAC but is it going to be better to dump floppies like these ones ?
Could be that they are toast, 3.5 media sucks... Wait! It could be that being a raw dump without a filesystem, so WinIma can't retrieve it. Use DD or DD for Windows, then compare the CRC with a known good cart dump, and/or run it on an emu. Just rename the DD dump to .bin, or .n64. Anyway, I hope they are ok. Probably if a single track is gone your dumpis ruined, and that's likely to happen... Good luck!
The very best way would be to use a KryoFlux. Maybe you already know somebody that has access to one and can dump the discs for you? Might be worth asking around. Failing that, if you want to give dd a try also pass it 'conv=sync, noerror' so you get as much data off the discs as possible while skipping over any unreadable bits.
What is the difference between a classic usb floppy drive and KryoFlux ? Or do you talk about the KryoFlux board ? Is it compatible with usb floppy drive ?
"normal" drives just try to read tracks off the disc, kryoflux, simply speaking, scans the whole surface and digitizes the magnetic field. that means it doesn't care about copy protections (not relevant for this) or malformed/broken tracks (might be relevant). (you would then postprocess/convert that dump into the usual ("winimage-style") image format.) if you don't have access to a kf, just try dd with the error skipping parameters i mentioned - maybe it was just winimage acting up. try opening the dd dump in winimage afterwards, see if it still complains.
Yes. The Kryoflux board is approximately €100. www.kryoflux.com webstore.kryoflux.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=1
