Trying to find more information about using EEPROMs instead of 27C322s in SNES carts.

    Hi,

I recently purchased some new SNES PCBs from www.callanbrown.com (Who by the way is super cool and helpful!)

Now, he uses the workhorse 27C322s on them. But, I am really looking for a more viable (cheaper) easier option. 27C322s are notably more expensive than most EEPROMs and in the US you have to either order 180+ at a time or order from China and wait a month for delivery. Callan personally doesn't use EEPROMs so was really unable to point me in the right direction.

Now, I have spent time (a lot) googling and searching. There are even a few posts talking relatively about it here. But, I want a definitive answer.

Is it FEASIBLE for me to continue this route (cost, easy, availability) with EEPROMS.

Now, look... I am a novice at best at understand all this. I am really trying to educate myself as best as possible. So, bare (or bear even) with my ignorance.

But, do they even make EEPROMs with the same/similar spec as the 27C322 in DIP format? If not, I would need to buy TSOP to DIP adapters for everything. Which already cuts in the "cheap" and "easy" factor. TSOP scares the shit out of me, to be frank.

Here is what the board looks like if it helps.

Also if it makes it easier. The datasheet for the 27C322s that I would most likely use if I can't get EEPROMs

    http://pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/view/22823/STMICROELECTRONICS/M27C322-100F1.html

Thanks in advance for ANY advice if I am barking up the wrong tree. Or if I am asking retarded questions.

Ooooh! Those look nice, does he plan to make shells available to put them in?

I'd seen that INL had been making that, but why is there no mention on his website that it's not available yet?

Edit: Nevermind; while the product page itself doesn't specify preorder, the general "Products" page does.

I have a very nice repo of Zelda: Parallel Worlds Remodel... but I think the shell is actually a donor shell.

Though those look amazing. Its not really the point. I want to build these for the experience. So, any help would be appreciative.

What is going to happen to all the repo makers though when these become available so cheaply?

Yeah, I was just trying to mitigate the delay in shipping time from China since the US doesn't carry them except in 180+ quantities. Also, since I do not own a decent UV light... was trying to save from setup costs as well.

Thanks, bad. This is enough reason for me to realize I should just stick with the 27C322.

    Appreciate it.

I've heard yes, new shells will be available, no donor parts will be needed at all.

What about the extra "bits" (security chips, SuperFX etc), will those be available too?

security chips are cloned - you want the supercic "key" for the cart side.

Superfx etc, of course not - no one has cloned those.

Cool, this seems like a great way of doing up repros of games that never got a retail release (i.e Radical Dreamers), though not so much for ones that need a SuperFX chip (i.e Star Fox 2). I'll probably continue using SFC carts for retail releases since I get matching packaging and labels that way :D
