I've spent the last 2 days dumping 3500+ MP3 audio tracks from genuine CD on to an external USB HDD on my PC upstairs with a view to letting other PC's on my network access them. On a similar note, I also thought it might be interesting to stream some MP4 of genuine DVD's I own that I converted to use on my PSP. I dumped them on a DVDr, stuck them into the PS3 and confirmed that it would play it. I then downloaded (per Sony's & MS instructions) Microsoft Media Player 11. I set the connections I wanted up and granted access to the particular devices I am currently happy with (i.e. just testing it on the PS3). Now, I can get the audio to stream no problem, but no matter what I try I cannot get WMP11 to create or accept a library of the MP4 titles. It cannot find them when I point at them and I'm resorted to shouting "there, in that fecking folder RIGHT THERE!" and it still doesn't see 'em! Is it a bit like the PSP, do I actually have to called the folder something specific as at the moment I have it entitled "MP4 movies". Any ideas?
Pretty much given up on attempting this for tonight. The only way I can see the MP4 files and actually view the footage is on the PC, unless I take the DVDr and stick it into the PS3. I reverted back to Windows Media Connect 2.0 as I hated the layout, the settings and the whole feel of Windows Media Player 11. Yuk! One thing I noticed is that with WMC2 you can select global shuffle (i.e. shuffle all 3500+ tracks), where as with WMP11 I could only shuffle the tracks of the particular artist in question - i.e. it stick to shuffling the songs on the particular album I was listening to... that can't be right? Anyway... stuff it, it's 3.22am and I am knackered and no further forward with MP4 streaming!
i dont know anyone who got windows media player to work wth the ps3 lol. Make life easy and use TVersity (google it)
Many thanks for that - I'll post here whether it is successful or not. Was going to spend a part of today looking closely at what is available. You've saved me a bit of research (and frankly pain as Sony's own instructions suggest WMP11 should work fine - wrong!) It seems that WMP11 places my MP4 titles into a folder entitled "Other media", which is not viewable on the PS3. No matter how hard I try to get it to see them as "Video" - no joy!
Well I never tried to stream video to my PS3,what I did was use a usb hdd to put my mp4 vids on and watch. But I hate converting all of my vids to mp4,thank god for good old xbox media center.Hope you get your vids streaming and working Parris.
