TSOP/Modchip Xbox and new hard drive I have a TSOP Xbox, done by the previous owner. I want to put a larger hard drive in it so installed a Western Digital 160GB, ran AID and did the format/prepare hard drive stuff as well as installing the dash (EvoX in this case). However when I reboot without the disc, the console just cycles on the Xbox logo with Xecutor2 at the bottom. What's going on? Edit: Seems to be working now, not sure what happened. Score 1 for TSOP. Edit 2: Maybe it's not TSOP'd after all, found this under the DVD drive... Anyone know about this chip? According to AID's BIOS Checker it's X2 4973 (1.1). In XBPartitioner it says the BIOS doesn't support LBA48, so it's only seeing 130ish GB of the 160GB hard drive. What are my options?
Swap me the chip, I will send you one flashed with what ever you like and cover postage. I kinda collect xbox chips and do not have the one you have.
Bad_Ad - thanks for the offer. I'm thinking of keeping it for now but if I fancy a swap in the future I'll let you know Titox - thanks for the link
If it hangs at the XBOX Logo, it's the DVD-ROM power cable making the bootup time out. If you leave it long enough you should get error 07 or 10. So my theory is the DVD-ROM power cable is on it's way out, or maybe not plugged in all the way.
It wasn't hanging as such, more like constantly rebooting. Anyway managed to sort it with another wipe and re-install of the dash. Although as mentioned earlier it only sees about 130GB of the drive due to the BIOS not supporting LBA48. For now I've just stuck the original drive in and left it alone. Will decide what to do with it later on... might just keep it as a spare.
Yeah I wouldn't mind if I could find a decent tutorial, and know for sure that the new BIOS was compatible with it. Last thing I want is to kill the chip.
I tried my first TSOP today on another console... didn't go well... Anyway this particular one can be kept as a spare til I'm comfortable flashing the chip.
I think I burned through one of the solder points! Let's start with the good: And then when it went bad on the other side: That second point (on top of the 4 in R7R4) is burned off right?
Yep, that's a lifted solderpad alright... Too much heat for too long. Remember that these solder pads are bonded to the fiberglass board by epoxy. I guess everybody learn the hard way. Yes there are: http://xbox.x-pec.com/tsop/
I just couldn't get that damn solder to stay in place! It kept rolling on the board and then back on to the iron! Similar thing happened on the top side but then that managed to find it's way on the points ok. So I thought I needed to heat the point up more... but obviously too much. Will have to try again in the future with another board. Gotta learn somehow right?
You are supposed to heat the pad/component and bring solder to that. Not melt solder on the iron and then try to apply to the pad.
