I recapped the system and it now suffers from excessive load times. Any suggestions? I do have another system for testing so I already checked the laser. I've been over my recap soldering and don't see any problems.

You may want to check the laser pots. They might have been adjusted previously and need to be again. I only ever looked up the values for a detachable CD-Rom but I am sure someone out there has the default values for a Duo documented.

Been there done that, I used a working duo as a reference and the settings were very similar. Seems to be having trouble reading the inner tracks of the disc where the program data is.

Have you checked the caps you used? Maybe one was bad?

Possible but it would be nice to have some idea which caps are involved. The problem seems to be a focus/tracking problem but doesn't seem to be a pot problem. The system squeaks a bit when reading the inner tracks. This is a problem that I usually have to deal with on the cd unit after a gear fix. The duo seems to be a less cooperative patient.

Maybe try adding a bit of grease to the mechanisms. Also check to make sure the carriage is sitting flat / straight. Check to make sure no caps are holding it up potentially.

I already checked the drive itself, I do have another duo to parts swap with something's wrong with the board.

Probably a trace or via that's been damaged. I patch up any vias that look even remotely corroded on a duo. Just expose the copper each side and put some wire down it. Solder both sides and cut flush.
