Somewhere I saw some news that a Turbo Everdrive V2 is in the works and that it maybe can be used as a Arcade Card Pro too. Is this true?
That's what Krikzz had to say. He's also going away from the Altera FPGA on this one, hoping to use this as a trial run for a future ED-GB or ED GBA run using a smaller more efficient processor.
How old is this news from Krikzz? I am planning on buying a everdrive for my IFU but now I dont know if I hould wait for V2 or not.
The ED 2 has more memory which would let one play Populous and later System cards work properly. It won't do Arcade Duo or Pro. System 3.0 for PCE is still easily found cheaply so it's not really a good reason to wait for TED 2.0 but if you really want to play Populous and not have to actually find real Populous card, TED 2.0 will be worth waiting for. Otherwise just get the current version.
It's not going to have Arcade Card functionality. But the 4MB of RAM on board will be writable memory ... which is how it can do Populous. Having the extra memory available will be useful for both translators and homebrew in the future. He's also relocated the USB connector to the middle of the card, so it will work in the SuperGrafx as well as the PCE. He's posted pictures of 2 revisions of the new card, so it's real, and may be nearly ready. Actual ETA is unknown, but he sort-of-hinted at "a couple of months" ... which I assume really means "before Christmas".
Any new news on the release of v2? I now own a TG16 and would love to have an everdrive for it and I know if I buy a v1 and v2 comes out a week later I will be mad.
