    Hi all,

Just a quick question. I just acquired a Turbo Grafx 16 console and I was wondering if this particular system experiences capacitor issues? It works fine, however I just want to make sure.

you should be fine until the day it stops working correct.

Only the Express, duo models for NEC have the common junk capacitor leaking issue.

others will have capacitors dry up or short from other issues not junk capacitors

The original model Duo's, yes. I haven't run into any Duo R/Duo RX's with capacitor issues.

The Super-CD-Rom² units are also plagued with bad caps.

My CD base had a blown cap when I opened to check for leaky caps. My guess was the previous owner used wrong polarity to test it as the cap was on the DC input and no diode to protect that cap.

Normal TG16? Not at all! In fact, its one of the most reliable consoles money can buy. The TurboDuo? Has a lot of cap issues. Sound starts sounding crappier and sooner or later, the console wont read CD's then won't turn on at all.
