I've just acquired a UK PAL NEC Turbo Grafx console with pad. Unfortunately it is missing the mains adaptor and RF lead. After a quick google I've seen that you can use a Sega Master System mains adaptor as a replacement and that any RF lead will suffice. Is this correct? Also as I've never owned a Turbo Grafix before, am I right in thinking US cards will run ok on a PAL machine?
converter is required, the system plays TG16 cards. And yes, RF is poor quality so at least get a av booster unless you like being stuck in the early '90s!
Lucky you lol. I may be getting one that is bare with nothing from the local game store for 10 bucks. I'll have to get a controller and games cheap somewhere hopefully.
Excepting a *very* few games (and that's only because they look for a specific System Card version, rather than a region per se) nearly ALL PC-Engine CD ROM^2 games (including Super and Arcade) are region free. It was a nice perk if you were an import gamer back in the day. -hl718
On a side note for the pc engine/TG fans here nowadays sony is offering pce games on the japanese PSN for 600 yen each. It's not the same as having the original console but much easier offcouse if you are just in it for the games.
UK PAL Turbo Grafx Just for future information: The UK PAL Turbo Grafx (the grey model) has an AV port not RF so if the console doesn't come with an AV cable with a 5 pin jack (as mine didn't) you can buy one off ebay for about £7 - try this seller - 'pcenginesales' his products are great. Also you can use a Sega Game Gear mains adaptor to power the UK PAL Turbo Grafx. My TG was brand new - just powered it up for first time - very satisfying
..Also, did Street Fighter 2 only get released for PC Engine as I can't fins any Tutbo Grafx versions for sale?
That's right. Japan only. Lots of games on PCE never came out for the TG. You really need to get one of those adapters for the TG to play all the PCE HuCards.
As long as we're sort of on this topic, maybe someone can answer my noob question. I have a Japanese PC Engine Duo (whichever model the dark gray one is) but I also want to play some American HuCard games. Is there an adapter for this readily available or would I be better served just buying an American TG16?
Short answer, get the American TG16 and/or Duo for HuCard purposes. American units can play Japanese cards with a simple pin adapter. Japanese units need the pin adapter plus a mod to play American games. -hl718
