I've seen loads of piccies of Famiclones and Segaclones in my time, and pics of PCE backups units, but never a bootleg PCE console, either HUCard or CD based. Or even a bootleg HUcard, for that matter. Just wondering if they exist, and if anyone has piccies of them??
There is one called the UFO I believe. Anyway it's out there, can sometimes be found on ebay and is a white clone of the PCE Shuttle, but with an extra cart port on the bonnet. The one time I saw it the description gave no clues as to what the extra cart port was for. If it was a famicom clone as well that would be just lewd, but i doubt it seriously.
I've got a pic of the UFO, I just haven't posted it on my site yet. Maybe I'll do that tonight. Here is the Korean version of the PC Engine: http://hawanja.com/hai_tai.htm
. it's called [baistar] - phonetically speaking... made by Hae-Tae which is one of bigget conglomete in Korea (as well as in Japan). Didn't know Hae-Taw went to the console business but then Samsung made Sega Saturn clone so it's not surprising I suppose... cheers
well I think Samsung actually had a license to produce a Saturn "clone" (just like JVC, Hitachi and Yamaha)... making an illicit clone of the Saturn would be way too hard, especially back in those days. And it would be great for a change if something else then those infinite numbers of NES/FC clones would make its way to this country... I'm getting sick of it :smt019
The Hae-Tae system is actually strictly speaking a clone of the TurboGrafx-16 rather than the PC Engine, which is quite interesting if you think about it. Its full name is Supercom-16 Vistar and it's actually Hae-Tae's second system, the original Supercom was just your run of the mill Famicom clone, though. Also, Samsung sold clones, not just of the Saturn, but also of the Master System (Gam*Boy and Aladdin Boy) and the Mega Drive (Super Aladdin Boy). They were Sega's official distributor in Korea, much like TecToy is in Brazil. Beginning with the Dreamcast, though, Sega started distributing their own stuff, but I have heard that there's was also a Korean Dreamcast distributed by a company called Tomato, I've never seen any pictures of it, though, so I don't know if it looks any different from the usual Dreamcast. The Korean video game market is pretty fascinating, or at least it used to be when South Korea had their cultural inegrity laws that kept Japanese companies from selling their own system directly. ...word is bondage...
How right you are. BO! look at this GREATNESS, truly the fucking king of all things youve ever come to know.....infact this needs a whole section on Assembler for being amazing. The Vistar isn't a TG-16 clone, it IS a TG-16. They took the PCB out of the TG and slapped it into a new shell. You can see pics here: NFG Games / Vistar Daewoo also imported the PC Engine from japan and sold it as their own brand albeit with stickers, no actual changes to the hardware like the vistar. LG handled 3DO, and interestingly Hyundai imported some Nintendo gear as well.
