This is for the PSX DVR, not Playstation 1.

Also I can't resize the pictures, so some are really big :/

First a little back story, the PSX was not made by the same people who made the PS2, which explains a few things. Sony Computer entertainment (SCE), developed the Playstation we all know that.

However the PSX is a different story, it was developed by SONY (NOT SCE, confusing right?!) and for good reason. The PSX is a DVR, it (was) intended to fit in with other sony home entertainment products, it's an all in one device basically (DVD, TV/CABLE, Internet, Gaming and music). A few years ahead of its time, about ten to be exact! ****cough cough Xbox one blergh cough cough!**

This miss mash of two worlds created the PSX, this also meant that SONY didn't use standard Playstation I/O, instead opting for a more home theater friendly choice of I/O (makes sense).
The PSX uses standard RCA composite inputs and outputs but where does that leave Component? At the time SONY was really into making things simple (ie: The PSX), so they opted for the D-Terminal, one nice small connector, everyone is happy!

Well NO, outside Japan, the D-Terminal is pretty rare. Heck where I live, no one knows what SCART is! So that brings me to this tutorial.

Step 1: Open the belly of the beast!

Tools: Screwdrivers, Wire, Soldering Iron and solder

Opening the PSX is slightly different for each model, it's not too hard to figure out (I am in the process of writing a teardown).

Once you have the system open, locate the area of the D-Terminal, we are going to be soldering to the legs of the connector.

    Step 2: Pinouts

The PSX Supports Component already so all we need to do is tap into those connections..

    Step 3: Solder In

Now just solder in the four wires, run them to a connection of your choosing (RGB RCA connectors or a nice discreet 3.5mm TRRS headphone jack).

Sit back and enjoy the pixels!

    Then don't use eBay. >_>
I feel that it's a horrible place to get rare, Japanese stuff like the PSX anyway.

Anyway, the PSX is probably a collectors' item, considering how expensive it is to get one. And how they really shouldn't be used for regular gaming because they could die any moment. $40 isn't really expensive if you consider that getting one wouldn't require you to cut open such a rare system.

EDIT: Here's one on YAJ for only 360 yen: http://page18.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/w106430944

    Yup, it's a standard one.
