TV card help / MegaCD help

Okay, so I finally got round to dragging my MEgadrive 1 and MCD1 up to University with me....however, at the moment I cant use it as I use a VGA convertor to play my consoles through my PC monitor....but the VGA box only accepts AV, composite or S-video.....and my Megadrive has RF out only.

The solution I wish to achieve is plugging my MD into the RF ariel input on my PCI TV card.....however, I yeild no results in either ATV2000 or DScaler.

Could somebody please give me some help/advice on setting up my TV card to work right like this? And yes, I already have the latest drivers (its an oooooold card though).

    UPDATE------------------------------
Got the TV card working(ish). No audio :( However, now I have found out there is a problem with my MegaCD MK1. It doesnt power up at all :/ I am using the MD1 PSU I got with it yet still no powering up. I have switched the PSU and tested it seperatly and it works fine. Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?

    I hope I havent fscked the MCD1 :(

OK, firstly check (if your card has one) that the audio pass through cable is connected. Secondly, in Dscaler you need to tell the software where to source the audio from.
What kind of TV card do you have? Mines a Bt878, and i have a menu called "Bt Card" in Dscaler - in that go to audio input and try each option

    Hope that helps

Well, I read up about my card online (Modular TEchnology MM205) and the company has gone bust now and they never released a WinXP driver that supports the onboard audio processing.....now, because the card is meant to use onboard audio processing it has no Soundcard connector.

Basically, now I have to either mod the car or buy a new one......hmm...I wonder where I left that soldering iron.

And yeah, mine is a bt878 too, but Dscaler just crashed out whenever I went to the bt card options :/

The Mega Drive does have composite video out through the DIN socket on the back. Just get a composite cable, cut off one end and jam it in to pin 2 (from http://www.gamesx.com/avpinouts/genesisav.htm), with ground going into pin 4. Then just plug the headphone socket on the front into your PC or hi-fi or whatever.

I dunno about your Mega CD - hopefully it's just the DC jack's fuckered or something simple - I've seen that happen with MD2s. Is there a fuse inside anywhere? And are you absolutely sure you're using the right kind of adaptor?

I'll have a go at that cable mod (or if anyone is selling one of the original AV cables, lemme know).

And the MCD I havent even had a chance to open up yet. I know its the right kind of adapter (I was using the same adapter back home....even checked it online and against the label underneath the MCD).

  6. For a MD/Genesis Mk1, you can get a 5 pin DIN cable and build a proper A/V cable using it, and this way you don't have to worry about the thing falling out/shorting something/what have you. Build it to the Turbo Duo pinout so you've got the proper cable for that already should you ever get one without it. The video and (I think) left audio are in the same spot for the TD as the MD/Genesis/SMS's video and mono audio.

Mind you, my Pinnacle PCTV Rave card (Bt878 I think) was almost unable to pick up my MD1's RF signal. What you want, my friend, is a SCART lead - well worth the tracking down as well as the 15e they tend to cost - and you can do a 60hz mod without much problems... but then you'd need a TV too.

Okay, so I got the display working okay now.

The problem is now my MEgaCD. I managed to identify the broken part using a multimeter (or I think, anyway).

Below is a scan of the part....as I am unable to identify what it is (a fuse, I believe. It was marked with an F beside it on the PCB).

Any help identifying it would be appreciated :)

If you feel lucky, try bridging it with a wire. If the fuse was the problem, the MCD should work again. If the fuse blew because of a short, beware.
