So i just got a copy of The Raiden Project on PSX, and there's this vertical option in the game, but a normal tv cannot be turned on its side, or it will get all weird color looking. So i was wondering if there was cheap kind of tvs that could be turned on it's side. I don't want expensive plasma tvs or anything, nothing rare either. Any suggestion?
Strange.. I can turn my normal Sony TV by 90degrees.. (for Ikaruga) No probelm. Maybe you got some strong magnetic fields around?! Does it also happen, when you just move (not turn) the TV away from its old position?! Tube screens can be turned! Some of those arcade machines have an option for turning the screen!
well, wait a second, i' going to put the warning text that is in The Raiden Project (Waaah..Forgot that you don't have to wait since we're not live...) : First i thought it was BS, so i decided to turn my tv on its side, then the colors started to turn greenish or purpulish at some spots. Maybe this only affect old tvs, so that could explain why this message is in the game. And yes, i have a pretty old tv. what do you think? Any other members with the same problem?
There's a thread on this at shmups if you want the real low-down. Some TVs can do it... others can't. Look for a switch in the back that says "DEGAUS" and push it after the TV is on its side (it's not actually upside down, is it?) Also, leave the TV off for a while, THEN tilt it, leave it off some more, then turn it on. Might help, but probably not.
Err, or get a degaussing wand and run it over the screen quickly If you don't have a degaussing wand, a soldering GUN (not iron) would do... or I believe some suggested a hairdryer. Its basically an electromagnet. A few quick, circular waves should do it!
we turned our 17 inch jvc tv on its side once to play ikaruga on the gc, not to mention the strain and effort to flip it on its side, when we were done playing, we flipped it back, and the one end of the screen that was laying down, had turned a shade of purple, its pretty much gone now, escept for a small patch of purple at the top, though you hardly notice unless on a white screen...
Older or cheap CRTs don't take well to this, even after a rest period. If the TV has it's own degaussing feature, or you have a deguasing coil you may be ok. Make sure you support the television properly. CRTs are front heavy and it really sucks when a TV gets pitched to the floor. :-( I want to try this on my HD Sony 34" widescreen but the damn thing is heavy. Maybe I can coax a freind or 2 to help me move this monster, I sure would like ot see RaidenDX or Gunbird in it's true format. ^_^_^
Yeah, Raiden DX is the best home version out of the whole series IMHO. It came out on the PSX in 1997, and is basically a Remixed or updated version of Raiden 2. The music is great and there is a Master Raiden mode where you can watch a guy go through the whole bonus stage with one life and no bombs. :smt071 I'm still looking for the original release. Whenever I find a copy for sale it is always the Best 2800 (?) version. ^_^_^
I honesty haven't played Raiden 2 in a long time. From what I remember the basic game is the same, but with added levels. There is a training stage, regular mode and extra stage. Also there are a few st selections available including a pretty cool remixed version. ^_^_^
Follow the guide in this website: http://turn.to/Vertical EDIT: Just saw the link on Anitpasta's post to the same site. lol Also if you try to do this with a PC monitor instead of a TV, will you have the problems on the monitor just like the TV?
It depends on the quality of the tube as well. I have seen the colors change on cheap tvs. Vertical games allow you to avoid those "shot in the back" hits from enemies clipped on the bottom in raiden, and the "mystery shots" from the top. I have too large a TV to rotate.. So no vertical goodness for me.
