I really want to put some videos together showing the differences between early and final builds of Saturn and Dreamcast games. I'd like to do this by playing clips from both builds side by side in a split screen type of way. The problem is, I don't know of any software that can do this. I know my old fav' Virtual Dub can't. Nor can any of the video editing software I've bought over the years.

Does anyone have any good recommendations?

Any serious video editing suite (Premiere, Final Cut, Vegas etc) will be more than capable to put two clips side by side in a video frame. Unless I'm misunderstanding what you're after.

Final cut (and I think even iMovie) can do that, but I don't think you have a Mac?

Lightworks: professional video editing software for free (registration required.)

    Or..

    VirtualDub + AviSynth.
    Not as user friendly, though.

I think I'll give Lightworks a go. I have a few paid Video editing suits so I don't want to buy another. registration to Lightworks sounds fine though. Thanks guys!

If you don't know editing, Vegas is fine. I worked at a shop that INSISTED we edit on Vegas 7, even though 10 was out (because they were so cheap) and it was PAINFUL to go from working on Final Cut and Avid to that. But if you're just a regular Joe at home, Vegas would work. It doesn't have a very robust set of effects, though, and I don't remember it having split screen feature. You could do two layers of video and resize each one to fit both sides of the screen, but you're either going to lose frame or have extra space around the video. You could use that for titling and whatnot.

After Effects of any age would do it. Last time I tried doing that was AE 6 (from 2001).

I was going to wait until today and work on my new PC but it turns out XP doesn't like new style mother boards so I'm now waiting for Windows 7 Ultimate to arrive before I can get stuff up and running. I don't want to try it on my current PC beacuse it woudl take forever, it's that slow.
