I have a technical question about the 360. My bro just got his 360 back from Microsoft (the unit is mysteriously super-quiet, perhaps a Falcon?) So, I decided to get my 360 back from him and suddenly the bastard dies a three lighted death in the first 5 minutes I had it to myself (it was a launch unit that we waited in line to get) While I'm checking out the systems, I noticed that my bro's system had a two phronged power cord while mine had a three. My bro did get his used from gamestop. Maybe does this have some connection to both 360's dying? (we used the same wires for both systems; we figured it was easier than unplugging everything)

    Thanks

what are you talking about? There are a total of 3 plugs on the Xbox 360 power brick.

There is the main plug that goes into the rear of the 360 (i know you arnt talking about this one) The second plug goes into the power brick and it should be a 3 pronged plug. (almost like a computer power cord but with a half circle notch cut into it)

The final plug and the one I think you are talking about is the actual part that plugs into the wall outlet. It should be 3 pronged (positve, neg, ground) If yours only has 2 that would be odd as mine has 3 and its Microsoft brand. With as big and powerful as that brick is, it really should have the extra ground (3rd plug)

Please take some pics so we can see this and I can make sure I know what you are talking about. If that Power Supply is a knock off from GameStop that might explain it, but I dont think I would be using it lol.

Some Xbox 360 power leads / PSUs only have the Live and Neutral pins and do not have an earth pin. As the earth pin is a bit wasted (as the PSU is insulated as it is made of plastic and not metal) I can see why they probably saved a few cents here and there by not fitting in that extra piece of copper... It makes no difference to the Xbox and won't make any difference to the 3 lights of death.

Mine was about May or June of 06 and I have a nice 3 pronged cord. I can take a photo if you would like to see it ;)

My first 360 has 3 prongs, my second and current has 2. It doesn't matter. You don't need to grounded/earthed. It doesn't have anything to do with your 360 exploding and killing your cat.

How is this connected to the thread?

My XB360 came with a 3 prong plug. First one red-ringed.

Bought my 360 December of last year and it's got a 2 prong. At least they're polarized.

Just curious, why is that a postive (geddit? hahahahaha) thing? No seriously, I remember noticing some US plugs are polarized whereas - to my knowledge - euro plugs always fit both ways.

are you reffering to how on some American plugs, one prong is wider than the other?

I've always wondered why they were like that, same goes for the proper way to install an american outlet.... 0_o
